I had a 500 SEL. Didn't do miles to the gallon. It done gallons to the mile. But you're spot on. Some luxury and power in them.

Ideally, I would love to drive, at least once, either of the classic cars from the film Genevieve: a Spyker or the Darracq.

Not the most glamorous of vehicles, but they have endured for over 100 years

Genevieve is a 1950s film about the famous London to Brighton (car rally) that starred, amongst others:

Kenneth More,

Dinah Sheridan,

Kay Kendall and

John Gregson.

Music was by the famous mouth organ (harmonica) player Larry Adler.

A brilliant film, in color that is frequently on TV.

Although it is regarded as being grossly underpowered today, the Citroen 2CV is an astonishing vehicle that transformed the lives of French citizens after the second world war.

The Citroen DS21,23 and SM had very advanced design features, and the SM, that I have personslly driven, was amazingly comfortable.

Bit of a generalization there, which is true in many cases. But there are still some amazing cars being developed and produced in the 2020s.

If you like Focus RS, you should look at a GR Yaris to prove equivalent modern cars can still be breathtaking to drive.

A fabulous car called the Jaguar SS was produced just before the second world war, but its SS name has certainly not done it any favours in motoring circles.

The SS does NOT stand for the German Schutz Staffel, but was actually the name of the car's producer, Swallow Sidecars.

An exceptional and very attractive car.

But I'd take any of the 280SE's up to the W116

Remember it is S class or No class people

W108/109 for me. I think it’s the nicest classic Merc design.

Well for me it would be a bit of a tie between a VW SP2 and a Porsche 356 sportster - was truly gutted when that car disappeared from my driveway (cant believe the other word for disappeared from my driveway is banned on here)

Ive just been a cllassic car show over last 3 days i own two 60s classics but what do you class as a classic car these days as i would draw the line at what age is classic good job we dont class people the same classic or vintage lady been round the block a few times occasionally breaks down and temperamental body work could be improved but comfy drive sometimes occasionally backfires from a rattly exhaust

"OK folks you can have any classic car (pre 1990s) which car would you pick, for me it's a 1950s Ford Mercury.

Such a pity there’s not one car in the last 20 years that’ll be a class Maybe Focus RS is nearest it’ll be, As for that they are producing now, Every car on the road now is just a disposable item unfortunately:-/ pity "

That's rose tinted glasses, most of the stuff mentioned here so far would be rotten at 6 months old. Cars are 100 times better built now and there's plenty will be classics in future. In 1980 there was someone saying the same thing about rs2000's and whatever else

My favourite classic car of its time must be the Ford Zypher. Amazing car!!

Although it was surpassed by the much sought after Ford Capri. A definite pussy wagon!!

How would most of the stuff mentioned here be rotten in 6 months when they’re now all at least 30 years old?

I have a fourth seven year old car that I drive a couple of times a week and it’s far from rotten.

Some serious Classic Cars, coming up in this thread alright. It wouldn't be really called a Classic car, just yet. But back in the late 90's to early 00's. I used to like the Volvo 480, for some reason. I've seen pictures of them now. Sadly I can't see anything nice about them now.
