Dublin

Any hikers here interested in getting out for a few hikes around the Dublin/Wicklow mountains, or maybe even further afield?!

Days are slowly but surely getting longer, and hopefully will start getting drier!

Used to be a great hiking group on Fab where everyone would hike in the afternoon then enjoy a house party together that night

Fun, fun times

Yeah, I'd be interested in a few hikes Op

You can always wear something nice underneath your outdoor gear..... as long as its comfortable.

Newry Down

From experience over many years, I have found that the best way to meet new people is to go out hiking or hill walking alone; it is very difficult to pull together a group to meet at a specific starting point.

Walkers are generally but not always friendly, and you can get a feel whether a person approaching is friendly or not; from my own observations the very worst people to engage with are a M/F couple who look as if they are fed up with each other, but don't want a third party to break in!

The best icebreakers are dogs; I no longer have a dog, regrettably, but I really enjoy talking to dog-owners, even those who are a little aloof at the outset.

However, commercial dog-walkers can be a bit curt and impatient from my experience, probably because they have a set Time to return the pooches to their owners.

When, I am engaging with other walkers on towpaths or in the hills, it frequently crosses my mind how many would be interested in a threesome!

Geeez.....I always thought getting out on the hills was a way of switching off and clearing the mind.

Now I will be constantly scanning the horizon for pooch people to psychoanalyse.

And please tell me the threesome thoughts do not include the dog....

Dogs, from my experience, are fantastic craic; most are friendly, almost all are delighted to meet you, are uncritical, and sniff your crotch at the first opportunity.

For me, that's the limit!

Humans are a different type of animal;

This thread could be going way off track.

Over familiarity with strange dogs could lead to all sorts of weird stuff.

Dogs with collars and always on leads of course. We don't want them disturbing the wildlife whatever about getting the hillwalkers over excited.

I'd love to get out on the hills in the Munster area, dodgy knees means it takes me a while to get back down, lol but with patience and paracetamol, I'll see ye at the bottom.

Some 3 - 4 hour treks, on moderate level trails, in the Galtees, Ballyhouras or Comeraghs would be a good place to start.

You are well placed for some good walks, lucky thing.

In life, as on Fab, you make your own luck.

Where to live, where to hike and who to hike with.

Same as on here, who chat with or who to meet.

And yes I guess I am very lucky both on and off here.

Happy hiking trails.
