Finally got rid of the home phone number yesterday

2 people used it to ring the house but the argument always was that everyone had the number so we could be reached in an emergency

Feck that ...

Does anyone else have or ring home phone numbers anymore

The only person I knew who still had a landline was my 98 year old aunt who died in December

Yep still have a home phone but no landline. Works off the broadband. Find it really useful for when someone needs to get in contact in an emergency as I never have my mobile off silent

Got 2 new home phones when I changed to full fibre a few months ago and they upgraded the phone line to digital voice. Haven't called out on one in years and don't remember the last time there was an incoming call either.

I still have a landline. It's my communication line to Mama doghunter who has no affinity for smart technology and the likes.

I had issues when the ex was removed as he wouldn't release the number for an age so yes I have arranged a new one but we don't use it as I never bothered updating it with places.

Just use my mobile

Also mobile connection can be very bad and if English isn't your mother tongue, it's like listening to letterkenny man out in the gael storm.

Had a landline number for 2 years after moving but never a handset with it

Got rid of it now as broadband contract was cheaper without that aspect.

Might be handy in the case of an apocalypse but then again, a satellite phone would be better

If you have sky install fibre to the home then the landline is no longer needed. The only way I got rid of my landline.

Yes i still have a land line because there's very little difference in cost and I know that having my own line means I'm not just a jumper cable in a cabinet for just bb. Lose you line and you might never get it back. I'll keep my landline for a few extra bucks a month.

I haven't had a landline for years; furthermore I never speak to anyone by phone and conduct all my interactions by text and e-mail: more productive use of my valuable time!

On a related point: it is many years since I have seen anyone making a call from a public phone box, yet they still exist, at least in theory, but many have been vandalised.

I tried to make a call from an adjacent box to complain about a box with broken windows; I could not understand the foreign operator, but managed to determine that she was in Bangalore, and she needed the postcode of the badly damaged facility.

I gave up; it was never repaired and homeless men now use it to store their sleeping bags during the day.
