Hi All,

If you are directly employed in the Republic but an NI resident what way do pensions work?

Do you still have to contribute or can you opt out?

That information is surely available from Revenue/Citizens info/gov UK/etc

Should definitely check the actual documentation and not take advice from fellow fabbers about something like this xx

AFAIK employers are legally obliged to pay a % of a workers pension fund the rest is made up by the employee themselves and I think the employee can opt in or out on that 1 regardless of what jurisdiction they live in

Might be different for you, because my work is freelance. So check with Gov.uk and Gov.ie too.

But I jump between Donegal and Belfast for work all year long and can always manually opt out of pension payments if I want
