"He is making a right nuisance of himself. It must be very hard for all the students trying to study. Amazing how the students have not told him to get lost. They have, but polite and reasonable doesn't hold much sway over zealots" I know the students wrote a letter, but I meant how students or parents have not physically confronted him. Then that would be playing into his hands. As someone posted already, put him in the general prison population and it will be a different story. The whole family are hypocrites.

"I'm sure there is sustainable backing for his endeavors... even more so now ! What is so glaring about all this on fab anyway imo is that its not stop people making judgment calls on someone for they don't know, for being judgemental !!!!! and writing him and his family off completely. I don't know anyone on fab including myself that hasn't been judgmental ... that hasn't pushed their own rhetoric and opinions at times. I have read lots of people talking about exactly what children shouldn't do what is right for teenagers to do in what isn't and so on and so on. You're very very quick to stone this person and their family because they have done the same only it differs from our view. To refer to somebody or somebody's family as toxic without personally knowing all aspects of these people, in itself Is surely socially toxic? . Guys i get that people do wrong but who the fuck dosnt ... and surly there needs to be understanding shown for those who may cause harm with the best of intentions. If we are honest , it seems this family is acting solely from a place of passion for their religion. However ill faithed, and frankly outdated should we really choose to only see the bits we want to ? Are we not choosing the same blinkered method of viewing others as the Burks choose only on different beliefs? " Just think the parents are cunts for their kids ending up the way they did They have enough history of court cases to say they're all cunts in fairness How many times do you have to read about what they're up to to know that you're not misjudging them I was also in their shop with another fabber last summer while away for a weekend .....they're as mad as a box of frogs

"Am I the only one, who hasn't got a clue what this is all about?" A fundamentalist Christian teacher was a dick to a trans student, so the school suspended him. He kept turning up and being a dick anyway every day until he was arrested for trespassing. Them he was a dick to the judge so he got jailed. Now he's out of jail and still turns up to the school every day so the judge has said he gets a 700 euro fine for every day until he fucks off home and minds his manners

"There are some crucial issues to outline: Enoch Burke will not have any assets to sequestrate an therefore continues to be in contempt of the injunction, BUT... There is a scale, that's readily available, which shows that non-payment of fines, costs, or other financial punishments will result in a determinate prison sentence. Well, that's the UK legal system, and I would assume the Irish common law system that shares similar origins is almost identical. The allocation of costs for all these actions will be crucial as total costs will be phenomenal. But Enoch Burke probably owns nothing! " Since he lives at home with mammy and daddy and claims to have been saving for a mortgage (while suspended on full pay for the last 5 months), he must have a nice nest egg put aside.

"For a well educated guy with 2 degrees he is thick, After spending 100 days in jail, a number of court cases and arrests he still hasnt learned that he is wasting his time. What the odds of him being there on monday ?" There's surprisingly little correlation between academic intelligence and common sense. Add to this the fact that these children were essentially kept apart from society and brainwashed from infancy and you're very unlikely to see what passes for "normal" behaviour. I can't see how he won't turn up, it's not like he will have anything else to do, or even a choice, given that his mother clearly pulls the strings.

Isn’t he a Christian fundamentalist rather than a catholic? They’ve been around since the reformation but I don’t think they ever ran the country. He’s a sad young man who has been brainwashed into believing that for some reason showing your love for a fellow human by respecting their identity is not Christian and contravenes his beliefs If Jesus was around he’d have no issue with treating fellow humans with simple compassion….

"should i loose my job because i won't use the word they to address someone " Yes. If someone asks you not to address them in a particular way and you insist on doing so anyway, that's bullying and harassment. If you do it in your professional capacity it's absolutely appropriate for your employer to take action against you, up to and including dismissal. "He stood up for his religious beliefs" So he claims, but has he ever actually cited the part of the bible that deals with pronouns? "Jesus didn't exist Erm, yes he did. He wasn’t the son of god. He may have been a naughty boy but it is accepted that the person existed." There was definitely an illiterate individual at that time walking around making wild claims about himself. Manipulative people like "Mohammed" would have styled himself on "Jesus" centuries later as an easy way to gather a clan and gain influence. I doubt either would ever have believed how big their charade would grow. Centuries later we have Burke still trying the same shtick! It's the religious books that are complete and utter nonsense. Written hundreds of years after both men lived. Through word of mouth from illiterate, nomadic arabs, claiming it to be fact!

We have to remember the same laws that protect from Prejudice against their beliefs also protect him and rightly so. I think the fundamental issue here is we don't have a right to tell somebody how to behave we don't have a right to tell somebody what to believe and we also don't have a right to tell somebody that they need to go against their own beliefs in order to fit into society we just don't.

I'm sure you also noticed that you actually asked that question in a roundabout way of avoiding the statement that I put to you. I dare you to arrange those words into a sentence. " Sure You will notice I didn't answer your question because your question didn't have details that merit an answer. So I came back to you for a detailed question that could be answered! Being so quick witted to notice things, I'm in no doubt you notice that you only asked that question in a roundabout way of avoiding the statement I had put you

"should i loose my job because i won't use the word they to address someone Yes. If someone asks you not to address them in a particular way and you insist on doing so anyway, that's bullying and harassment. If you do it in your professional capacity it's absolutely appropriate for your employer to take action against you, up to and including dismissal. He stood up for his religious beliefs So he claims, but has he ever actually cited the part of the bible that deals with pronouns? As in, which part of his belief that he should be permitted to bully this student if he wants to is based on scripture? You constantly try to ram the word bully ... he never met the kid ... also its only considered bullying if how you refer to the person is degradation insulting etc . A teacher can refuse to refer to me as a student as "big daddy" and its not bullying ... So if someone in authority over you deliberately calls you something you've specifically asked not to be called you think that's OK? Deliberately calls me what? " Deliberately calls you literally anything that you've specified you don't want to be called. Use your imagination.

The question you should be asking is if I wasn't employed somewhere and I told the employer I only want to be referred to in a specific way then that is my right ? If we apply your logic and your position then I have a right to be called anything I want. So I want to be called fuckasouras. By your logic my employer is a bully if he dosnt agree. Yes?

"Am I the only one, who hasn't got a clue what this is all about? A fundamentalist Christian teacher was a dick to a trans student, so the school suspended him. He kept turning up and being a dick anyway every day until he was arrested for trespassing. Them he was a dick to the judge so he got jailed. Now he's out of jail and still turns up to the school every day so the judge has said he gets a 700 euro fine for every day until he fucks off home and minds his manners" As I understand it and I am of course open to correction the subject matter of the case is that he was suspended after he allegedly harassed the principle at a public event though he and most of the media commentary are focusing on the trans issue as being the reason for his initial suspension. Whichever is the reason for the disciplinary proceedings against him I think he is wrong to use religious beliefs to not refer to someone as they wish, if that were the case then atheist/non denominational teachers could refuse to prepare school children for religious occasions. At the end of the day he is just being a twat and shouldn't be given airtime, there are more worthy causes deserving the attention of the public and media than this pathetic individual.

" I think what some are getting at is that he feels that he should never been asked to do/ join in in something he feels is against his religion. Thus the issue which resulted in suspension shouldn't have happened. I wouldn't agree he is a twat. Purely on the grounds that it seems like a long long road to go if your only intention is to be awkward. I can't believe for 1 second that this man and family are doing all this just to be awkward.

Who keeps defying a court order , because he believes his bias takes precedent " That's a very interesting choice of words. I would imagine He may very well be a transphobe given that he has been raised to believe it to be harmful. I wonder It's our societal demand for unbiased in all, not just an example of our own bias to how we want people to think/live?

"Today'Irish Times reported that the school amended its previous affidavits to the High Court, but done by way of a rare ex-parte application, that is no advance notification being given to the Burke's. These two amendments have tried to counter the true claims by the Burke's about the disciplinary hearing and also about the child's two parents having attended at the school; only one parent had been at Multyfarnham Hospital school. Furthermore, there was an in-depth analysis in Irish Times Weekend Review by Fintan O'Toole, which is a significant progression from a journalistic stance He put the main issue into context, and the case's significance from an wider government educational policy perspective. This Burke debacle will instigate many changes, in due course! " That sounds like a good thing yes? When you say changes, I know your quite knowledgeable and would be keen to hear what changes might be taken ?
