Both my father and my other half were forced by the church to be born in Catholic mother and baby homes, and my father went on afterwards to be abused in a Catholic school. They were both systematically lied to afterwards and allowed to be physically and mentally abused by the systems in the church. I actually feel sick with anger when I see a Catholic priest. How anyone can be proudly part of this particular organisation when these systematic abuses are so well known, and are present in every jurisdiction that they operate, is completely beyond me. Hence judgement on them specifically.

I usually hock up a lugey on their window if I see a car that has deliberately parked in to spots to protect their car fuck em or if there's a space beside their drivers door I park my passenger side door as close as possible to their drivers door.

This is simply awful but, very sadly, the painful reality for so many... Like you, the various abuses of the Catholic Church within Ireland have had real and lasting impacts on people close to me and, while I am very much respectful of a person's personal religious beliefs, I have had judgement, when it comes to practicing Catholics not taking a more meaningful stand against the abuses of their Church & some of its clergy. Meaningful reparations have not been made, in my view, and I hold the whole church responsible for that, not just the abusers. I will add that I think the Irish government hasn't taken real responsibility for their part in it, either. So, lots of judgement there...

Those who chronically excuse awful behaviour, so as not to ruffle feathers.(Usually not silently)

Those who have been standing in a queue for an age, but still don't have their choice of payment ready, causing further delays. (Silently)

Drivers who refuse to let another driver cross over to enter somewhere, when they can clearly see traffic ahead, so they, themselves, can't go anywhere anyway. (Mostly silently)

People who seem incapable of lateral thinking and choose the lazy option. (Not so silently and sometimes directly, albeit in a nicer way)

Speakerphone in public..

I was in my local Lidl the other day and was trying to get some eggs but there was a woman talking on the phone blocking me. She had the phone on loudspeaker and was speaking quite loudly herself.

I politely said "excuse me, I just want to get some eggs".. She glared at me and said "do you mind, I'm on the phone".

I said "yes, I know you're on the phone. The entire shop knows your on the phone but I still want the eggs"

She moved reluctantly and I got my eggs. As I was walking away I could hear the two of them talking about how rude people in Lidl are. I could only agree.

There were half a dozen people trying to watch the TV and one or two asked him to move to no avail.

The depot manager threw me the remote and i turned the volume up so loud he couldn't hear the person he was talking to and had to go outside.

Finished his call and came back in a fighting mood but couldn't work out who had the remote

Perfectly well behaved, well balanced and adjusted individuals who haven't got a fucking clue what others are dealing with in their day-to-day not so perfect lives with conditions, disabilities and mental health issues or who have children with the same. While you judge those of us who do their damnest not to be a burden, imposition or hindrance while you're waiting in a queue at the checkout when I have one item in the basket because the other stuff I needed was out of stock or because I've been called to an emergency and that's all I have time for and I'm in a hissy because I'm panicked and don't have the right payment ready. You're at a crossroads where I am so lost in my own world that I didn't have the time to salute you for letting me out or didn't have the kindness to allow you out because again, I'm running late for an important appointment with a needy child. While you have managed to park your car perfectly whereas some of us struggle to organise neuro diverse children for appointments and are running late and the only parking space available is to park across 2 spots because the last person parking had to park awkwardly across 2 spaces for whatever reason .

There's bad behaviour and ill manners and even those can be misconstrued at the best of times when you're dealing with people who have different needs to the "normal" neuro typical person. You can count yourself lucky if that's you and your loved ones!

Whatever happened to showing a little kindness, empathy and compassion for those who you know nothing about or the struggles they live daily. A kind smile, encouraging word or oversight never goes amiss.

Indeed, and they were examples on the thread I used to try and make exactly that point in a roundabout way.

I frequently stop in my tracks and take stock of my thoughts/behaviour towards others for exactly that reason but am also human and not always successful - and I certainly didn't mean to make any personal digs aimed at anyone in particular. . I just wanted to point out that a little kindness can go a long way for more people than you'd think.

Anger, aggression and contempt breeds the same. It's amazing how a different approach in difficult situations can be turned to a positive by a positive attitude and behaviour even when you think it's not called for.

I agree with you mostly.

That’s why most of the time I don’t react to certain bad behaviour (even if they may annoy me silently) because as I say to my kids, you don’t know what that person is dealing with in her/his life.

We all have bad days. But they are limits nonetheless, having a bad day or a bad run in life should not excuse everything. And I’m sure you agree.

I don’t think any of us are perfectly well behaved, well balanced and adjusted individuals. When you pass superficial chitchat, you often realise that we all deal with some problems at some stage, some more serious than others… and while some manage to handle big ones, others get swamped under what the others would call small ones.

"Perfectly well behaved, well balanced and adjusted individuals who haven't got a fucking clue what others are dealing with in their day-to-day not so perfect lives with conditions, disabilities and mental health issues or who have children with the same. While you judge those of us who do their damnest not to be a burden, imposition or hindrance while you're waiting in a queue at the checkout when I have one item in the basket because the other stuff I needed was out of stock or because I've been called to an emergency and that's all I have time for and I'm in a hissy because I'm panicked and don't have the right payment ready. You're at a crossroads where I am so lost in my own world that I didn't have the time to salute you for letting me out or didn't have the kindness to allow you out because again, I'm running late for an important appointment with a needy child. While you have managed to park your car perfectly whereas some of us struggle to organise neuro diverse children for appointments and are running late and the only parking space available is to park across 2 spots because the last person parking had to park awkwardly across 2 spaces for whatever reason .

There's bad behaviour and ill manners and even those can be misconstrued at the best of times when you're dealing with people who have different needs to the "normal" neuro typical person. You can count yourself lucky if that's you and your loved ones!

Whatever happened to showing a little kindness, empathy and compassion for those who you know nothing about or the struggles they live daily. A kind smile, encouraging word or oversight never goes amiss.

That's my rant over for today. Fuck me, I'm worn out "

Shops that always have long queues are a disaster, like Zara in Limerick. Don't they realise that they're losing sales and p*ssing people off? Penneys have it down to a tee with loads of staff at counters and at Xmas they have a girl at the end of the queue with a sign so you can go straight there. They have it all figured out.

Ok , there are so many , a person is only answering the question asked but here's a few ...

When driving a person who leaves the roundabout at the exit BEFORE you and never indicates that they are about to do so and then it's too late to enter because the car behind them is already in the roundabout and you have to wait ,

People who DONT acknowledge that you have left them out in a heavy traffic time .

People who don't acknowledge when you keep a door open for them etc etc

..yes there are loads of everyday things that can irritate a person , does that make a " non judgemental " person " judgemental ".. course it does..BUT only in situations that deserve them , because , believe it or not , doing the simple things does make others life easier, never said easy ... easier...have a nice day .

I will continue to silently judge those who stand up and be counted with the abusers, those who hide and move around the abusers, and those who to this day fail to pay (court ordered) abuse reparations to survivors, and those who believe that babies can be "born of sin", and those who preach in hiv hotspots that condoms cause aids, and those who falsified babies death records in Bessbourough to cover up the brutality, and those who put these sinful babies in mass unmarked graves in Tuam, and those who forced mothers to give their babies away and to work to atone for their sins. The supporters of these people are trying to do right you say? Give me a break. They have their head firmly buried in the sand and can't see the horror that they are financually supporting and enabling each Sunday.

30+ years ago I would have sympathised but probably have been an apologist for the church.

I've done the whole altarboy, Christian brothers school etc and never been a victim or known anyone who was but even before all the publicity and pulling back of the curtain I was starting to feel uneasy about individuals.

I now can't differentiate between the church as a whole and those in positions of responsibility within it.

I've walked away with regret that I didn't sooner.
