£600 Energy payment tomorrow

The £600 payments to cover the increased cost of all forms of energy will be available from tomorrow, although a few have been received already in Saturday's post, that I thought no longer existed.

Realistically, what are you going to use this windfall for; solely for your gas or electricity?

My wardrobe's contents need to be updated; a suit from Marks & Spencer will be my first priority!

What will yours be?

There's different schemes in the north and south

In the south the money was credited to your energy account with your provider

"I only just got 200 off my ESB. Am I getting more"

It only applies in NI. The rest of the UK have had monthly discounts applied since Oct that will continue until March. Because we don't have an Executive in place here there was a delay until now and they have decided to give it as a one off payment to avoid issues with all those using prepaid meters etc.

It will be misused by some who have different priorities in the same way the Healthy start vouchers have been by some people on universal credit.

They are only supposed to be accepted by retailers for milk fruit and vegetables but I've seen them handed over for cigarettes and other non essentials.

I have changed electricity+gas provider in the summer for more discounts, plus this 3x€200, so I will pay this winter about the half of the last winter bills

I presume in the north the best unit prices are for those that pay by direct debit and paperless

Always worth your while to keep your provider of gas and electricity separate and to switch every 12 months

While on one hand I'm grateful for the money credited to my electricity account, on the other hand it does my head that we give taxpayers money to all the electricity companies who drive home massive profits.

It would have saved a lot of administrative work and bank charges had the government given the money directly to the electricity companies with the condition to keep down the unit price....

Anyhow the situation has something pervert...

Consequences of blanket support.

My annual Gas / Electricity April 22 to April 23 was set to be £700, probably less due to removing Spring Hot Water from the mix.

With rebates, it's £200 so enjoying a toasty Winter. Although, most of the money is being against the original investment that brought Energy import down by so much.

Anyone with their current provider for more than 12months need to shop around. The 200 x 3 (or indeed 4 as such as also had 200 credited in earlier 2022) have ceeraintly helped most but an awful lot of people will feel the bills are manageable but in reality will have had 800 credited in the past 12 months go unnoticed almost.

Most of the politicians are shareholders in these companies so they give these companies tax payers money so they can have divide ends themselves. The Government will never cap because the more the companies get the higher the divide end.

Don't really see what the area has to do with it really.

And I personally don't feel it should be used for a new suit etc. It seems to be almost thinking it as a little bonus for himself as oppose to what it is meant to be used for. I'm very grateful for getting it and myself and my housemate will be using it for exactly the reason it's has been given as oppose to anything else.

I posted first thing this morning and have been away all day, pursuing my usual Sunday routine in Belfast.

My post was deliberately provactive and blatantly posted tongue-in-cheek.

I am not a suit person and have not worn a suit or any formal wear for 20+ years, at the very least.

I dress very badly.

After the 2010 freeze of -15°C, and a previous cold experience in mid-1996, I insulated my home to a truly phenomenal extent; my total energy bill per year is about £300 max.

My lowest electricity bill for three months was £3.68

I will be using part of the £600 payment to make advance payments on my electricity bill with NIE, that I pay by cash. I pay nothing by Direct Debit at present, but that will probably change over the next year.

I could not be bothered changing suppliers because I use so little energy.

Well done with getting costs down..

Look into Solar Driven Air to Air (Air Conditioners) as they save me a fortune as well as Solar Heated Hot Water Spring to Autumn.

Unless you're Log burning..

Those on LPG, Oil, Bio or other non mains Gas fuel, ensure you claim

The Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) will provide a one-off, £200 payment to UK households that use alternative fuels for heating, such as heating oil, LPG, coal and biomass, instead of mains gas.

This £200 payment will ensure that all households who do not benefit through the Energy Price Guarantee to heat their homes, receive support for the cost of the fuel they do use.

We can't claim anything. The £600 payment is already made up of £400 from the government scheme plus the £200 AFP.

To enable me to demonstrate how quality insulation, lagging and eradication of all draughts can cut energy bills: mine are minuscule.

And frankly, to act as a honeytrap to note who would instantly jump on my posting, criticise my pigacy and generally lambast me for wasting taxpayers' money on a suit, something I haven't worn in 20+ years, nor bought in over 30 years!

First vouchers are being delivered by post, but as usual lots of problems are emerging: Post Office uses a system that neither CU nor Nationwide customers can access.

Lots of elderly people exiting Post Offices with cash on them creates an opportunity for miscreants

Direct Debit customers are OK; paid directly into their accounts. Everyone else is voucher-based.

But some bank accounts now cannot be used: all Credit Unions and Nationwide and Monzo, because they are on a different banking system.

If certain individuals are aware pensioners and other users have at least £600 cash on them, they might be inclined to mug them.
