Is it gone up ? I got a huge quote today. Gone up nearly 100 on last year. Crazy for a person driving since 17 and no accidents etc. what’s your insurance?

Mine is cheaper than last year by about €60. Up in a few weeks and have a quote for €350. That’s full insurance with everything protected on a relatively new car. I honestly thought it would be more than last year .

East / North, Cork

My broker is McCarthy group in Cork. Use them for all my cars and vans. Always seem able to find a great deal and easy to deal with.

Insurance rating factors are very variable and depend on the provider.

First things first, make sure all of your details are correct and up to date

I.e. Your car valuation is the current market value (A lower value does not mean a lower price)

Check the quote if you add/remove experienced drivers to your policy.

Quote as a new customer to your current insurer using the same details and see if there is a difference.

Make sure your car purchase date is correct.

If you have other policies via family, make sure you are getting a loyalty discount of some sort.

Call and ask if there is a better price available.

Check if your home address is up to date. Now be warned, changing address can increase your price as as decrease it DRAMATICALLY. So make sure to tell the agent that you're only considering the change of address and have not moved yet.

And of course, shop around. Some insurers may operate at a loss to gain market share, then go back to standard pricing.

They must be putting extra cover on the back seats

Dublin west

Got mine today and it's about the same as last year but I sent it on to my broker and she got it down by almost 300 euro. Its commercial insurance so dearer than private, but always good to shop around.

I recommend shopping around and checking other insurers out. I was with liberty for around 10 years under my own name. This year they wanted €1000 fully comp for the year. Checked out aviva and got the exact same cover for €500. Well worth checking around.

The problem with making sure your car valuation is correct is in this climate it's a very subjective thing.2nd hand cars have increased massively in value the last few years.regardless of what value your make of car is the insurance company will use the book value for said make and model which could be vastly different to yer own valuation.not sure if they have to disclose to you what their valuation at the time of insurance would be
