What to expect at social event

Hey guys and gals I’ve been asking around with friends and people with experiences in meeting at social events but More or less I’m asking what the heading my says, as a complete fresh face to social events what would I expect to happen. I know it’s invite only and 9 times out of 10 smart casual wear, but I would like to know what the run down for most events are like. Im not particularly talking about sexually but like is there a standard kind of way they run, I’d be going as a single male and I’m a little but intimated at the thought of showing up and not having a fucking clue haha

Usually there's a group set up on another app so people can chat and get to know others going beforehand......at least then you'll have a chance to know a few people to say hello to.

If it's in a hotel and people are staying over then they normally meet in the bar a few hours before the event to have either lunch or dinner and to catch up with friends from previous socials

Its a bit like an Irish wedding without the bride and groom .....just normal people sitting at tables chatting and having a few drinks and some dancing if there's a dj

Best advice I could give you ...don't drink too much and dont expect anything except a bit of craic

You have to be invited to join the chatgroup though. I've only ever been invited to one and that was 3 years ago. Last few socials I've been to I assumed there was no group chat beforehand.

I always describe them as like the afters of a wedding. Drinks, music, mingling with people you sorta kinda know

There’s usually a chat group before so you can get chatting to people and often predrinks arranged so that you can meet a few people in a quieter setting and not have to walk in alone if you don’t want to!

If you’re nervous, let the hosts know and they should help introduce you to a few people.

Its amazing how many messages I've got when organising afternoon socials of guys asking where does the sex happen, what happens after.

A social is just like a normal night out with friends and making new friends, some are like a wedding reception with no bride and groom.

My advice go to one with no expectations, don't get d*unk, make the effort to chat to people, there's usually a kik group set up beforehand , I know any I have gone too would always try and sort pre drinks beforehand especially for people who may be attending alone.

I'd suggest going to a small social first with no more than 20 people where it's much easier to get talking to people. The larger socials tend to have groups of friends there, so can be more intimidating for newbies. Best of luck.

I don't remember being persinally invited to pre-event chat groups. I've generally asked the organiser and gotten an invitation.

Last time I sent an organiser my details for the chatgroup I was told they weren't having one.

Turned up on the night and a few people said they didn't know I was attending because I hadn't been in the chatgroup.

Definitely their loss

I've been to one Envy social,

They are surprisingly similar to a career networking event. Except instead of trading LinkedIn profiles, you ask people their Fab username.

There is a lot of circulating, politely introducing yourself. Asking people how long they have been on Fab or swinging and how it's been going for then.

I did find that the men who talked to me were much more polite than a regular club. Very quick to move on and wish me well if I didn't seem overtly keen on them.

More people go with friends than I expected. But it does mean you can get chatting to one person at the bar and they might introduce you to the other people they know.

From what I could tell, most people who played had already arranged it prior to attending. And were simply meeting up there.

There was some dancing and some kissing. But mostly trading profile names, chatting, and promising to arrange something to meet up again.

Around and about

Firstly congratulations on your first social. You may be bricking it but try to enjoy it too. So good that you have asked for advice in advance. Clothing wise, id go for smart casual. Think jeans and a nice top. You want to make a good impression on the guys and girls you are (hopefuly) meeting. Smell good.

Try to get into and chat in the kik group before hand so you have a few names, pre made a few connections and may feel less intimidated approaching people. Better again, arrange to meet up with a guy, girl cpl etc before if possible. Its always easier walking in with someone.

While there, try to chat to a few people even if they are not what you are looking for. Make connections, have fun and treat it like many have said, like the afters at a wedding. Dont get d*unk!
