Just remember some people like myself don't like Christmas anymore.

Kids are older no santa etc.

Over commercialised to death.

I work for myself so no Christmas nights outs, lunches etc.

Christmas for me is sitting at home bored watching TV for a week.

Anyone else feel the same or is it just me being a scrooge lol.

Dave ......Christmas is definitely not for everyone and like you my kids are too old to believe in Santa,I work for myself so dont have a christmas party to go to but you have to make an effort to get involved or you just watch tv as you say for a week

Get out of the house.....go for a drive ....then a walk .....I normally hit Glendalough at least once next week or even a beach....

There's a social on 28th December in Dublin city Centre ....have something to look forward to

True, although, 'em kids can't be blamed all the time, Say, Muslims, Jews, Jehovah's Vitnesses, Hindus, Buddhists, to name a few others, who don't give a damn about someone's birthday.

As for me...I don't care about Ghaaa or that rugby tournament in Qatar.

My 2nd Christmas is a divorcee and I'm usually a grinch but really looking forward to this year. Self employed too so no Xmas parties but plenty of opportunity for cheeky pints.

As bog man said above, you need to get out and get involved with family and friends or you'll just be sitting around for a week doing nothing. At the end of the day, you're responsible for your own happiness. Happy to chat with anyone who needs it

Not really for me either.

No Xmas party, but than I have no interest in going out meeting people that wouldn't speak to you on a normal night out but their your best friend at Xmas.

Will have dinner with my folks, go for a walk, enjoy their company. Come home to my house that evening, light the fire have some wine and go to bed. Technically its all over than.

I'm just thankful have a roof over my head, a warm bed and I'm safe.

As DD above said... I, personally, think, that Christmas is commercialized, as anything else.

To me, it is about self-indulgence, year is over, so sit back, have a nice meal, be it self cooking beans on toast, take-away, or half-cooked chicken from one's neighbors. Having a nice glass/bottle of something one, normally, wouldn't buy, because - god, it's soooo, expensive - and looking back to the year just gone. Time to be proud of one's achievements and right mix of nostalgia, bright future and all that. Feck presents, those are for kids and people, who do not know the real meaning of this holiday.

It's definitely an over rated time of the year..people buying over priçed shite that goes in the attic, adverts, charity shops and or the bin

..can be good craic being out as the atmosphere can be great...I say make it your own and don't believe the hype

As some posters have already said why not use the time to get out and about?

I agree that the whole thing is far to drawn out! But even this grinch gets a bit festive for a couple of days.

You could look at a sun holiday away altogether at this time of year that way you can escape the family if that's what your after

I'm not that bothered either way about Christmas I used to love it but now it's being celebrated so early I get fed up of hearing about it by the time Christmas day actually arrives.

We never go mad at Christmas present wise it's usually just a few small gifts.

In saying that where I work they love Christmas and get all excited about it so that helps to get me into the Christmas spirit seeing how much happiness they get from it.

This Christmas I'm looking forward to spending the day with my family,we are all together for the first time in years and it's been a tough year for us so that for me will make it a special day this time around.

Christmas "per say" isn't for me due to various reasons but I love to see many enjoying the whole show and getting into the festive spirit.

Time for a little bit of humility and family time, and not rising to the media spending frenzy constantly being forced apon us.

Christmas will be strange this year, my dad is in the uk and this week we have had two family deaths on the same day, my kids are not a age for Santa, except my middle girl who will forever believe in Santa . I'm gonna make the most of it enjoy family time.

Everyone has a different take or aspect on it , to me it's all about being with , as best you can of Course ,the people that care about you the other 364 days of the year , the rest can go fuck themselves,you see it all unfold before your very eyes , those that care and those that don't , like my updated profile says ..you don't give to receive..it's by giving you receive.. simple really, the true value of Christmas isn't in anything materialistic, Christmas is a time of year that it is what you make it , like anything the most important thing is that you are kind to yourself, Christmas or no Christmas.

Frankly, Christmas day is just another day for me, except that my routine is severely disrupted in that everything is closed, esp. public transport.

Christmas is over-rated, homogenised and massively over-commercialised and exploited by retailers; many businesses would not be viable in the absence of a Christmas festival of spending, consumption and over-indulgence.

Frankly, I no longer send Christmas cards and only receive one special one; I cannot disclose its source but you probably would not believe who sends it!

A great time for very young children and a top quality pudding from M&S rounds off the day, after having watched The Great Escape,of course, which was filmed sixty years ago, this year!

After this year we probably have 1 more with Santa. But aside from that we love getting together with our families, having downtime from work, drinks with friends etc.

We're not religious but regardless of that, it's a nice time of the year for us.

Also, there's nothing wrong with spending a boring couple of days in front of the TV with the feet up.

We have no kids at all and still love Xmas .. decorate the house inside and out etc … cook Xmas dinner … buy each other presents and visit family …. Have a few nights out/ meets if we get lucky …. Christmas is what you make it …. If sitting around watching tv is boring there is plenty other options … socials and parties all over the place going on

I'm definitely a giver sent a heap of Xmas cards, love cards and would send them for any occassion

Christmas is definitely over commercialised! Sure, where would we be without consumerism?!

I can understand being disenchanted around Christmas for many, many reasons. You are the maker of your own happiness, so why don't you think of ways you would actually enjoy spending the day, regardless and try actioning them within the constraints of the holiday that's in it - closure of venues and family/friends being busy with their own stuff.

If you don't want to watch TV, think of an activity you could do - get yourself some Lego to build, a jigsaw puzzle to do, a project you've been meaning to tackle for a while that's been put on the long finger?

Treat yourself to a meal you'd never have thought you'd try - sushi, Japanese cuisine, they've ostrich steaks in Lidl at the moment...

Buy that expensive bottle of wine or whiskey, have that cigar - do it for yourself

I hope you find a way of spending the time in a way that's meaningful to you, whether that is in the "Christmas spirit" or any other.
