How robust? Lots of online options for Chinese phones. Some very robust and lots of high spec too. A dual sim phone is very handy for travelling.

Watch remotely? You'd need a big screen on that phone then

What’s the budget?

What’s preferred screen size?

What’s preferred operating system?

What you are not happy with current one?

What features you want that current one doesn’t have?

It’s hard to throw any useful answers without understand what you really want.

I've had every major brand of phone and the Huawei ones are by far the best value for money, currently on a p20 pro. Very reliable and fast too. Get them 2nd hand off refurbed dot ie - always great price and service

I have a Xiaomi mi9t.

Got it because a guy on the same trek as me in Peru had one and he was getting great shots while I was lugging around an SLR

What’s the budget? I'm paying for handset so not above 700e

What’s preferred screen size? Not looking for a massive screen..small palm.

What’s preferred operating system? Don't mind as used both before. But probably easier to work with android.

What you are not happy with current one? Have Samsung and Huawei. Work V private. Operating system is too slow. Need better camera quality.

What features you want that current one doesn’t have? One that work faster...

It’s hard to throw any useful answers without understand what you really want. "

Dublin west

Budget poco x4 pro

Mid range Google pixel 7

Flagship Xiaomi Mi13.

But the poco will do everything you want and more for about 350 sim free.

After finding Xiaomi, I'd be hard pushed going back to anything else - great value for money. Currently using the Poco X3 pro but it's got a big screen. Had the Redmi note beforehand but also a big screen. They're great for the camera and have huge storage.

For a non-smart phone, Nokia are very good with batteries that last a very long time, depending on the model of course. They are also robust.

Some Chinese phones are very good with no crucial reliability issues; if bought outside the UK, such as in Spain, great deals to be had.

CEX shops are reputed to be good, bargain-wise.

I would personally avoid all latest model hyped phones available from high street stores; a ripoff.

I’d recommend iPhone 13 as it checks most boxes:

It’s “small”, will fit your hand

It’s fast enough with decent camera , you’ll able to find one around €700 budget.

Or if Google is the one you want pixel 7 is under the budget, I’ve never used it before but people replied here seems happy with it

Xiaomi phones are great value, have a look and I'm sure you'll find one to suit your needs. I wouldn't go back to Samsung and wouldn't use iPhone either, but that's just me!!

I’m using a refurbed iPhone 11 off swappie with a good while now. Not a thing wrong with the phone and works the same as new.

I'd second this have the Poco x3 pro and it's a class phone and the price makes it even better
