i travel all over

A bit like U2 where the ego of the frontman is the one making headlines . But also like U2, thé original famé arose out of enormous talent . Flatley held the world record for tap dancing 35 times per second. I think if one can ignore thé ego , there is unbelievable talent behind it all in transforming such skills into such mesmerising choreography

Belfast

I've never seen it apart from the original Eurovision segment but I know someone who toured the world as part of one of the backup troupes and has been running his own dance school in the States for the last 10 years on the back of that.

He says there is still a huge appetite for it over there.

The music still raises the hair on my arms if it comes on the radio in the car

Lucan

The choreography was spectacular, and Flatley, as mentioned above, was very impressive. The music lost me though. I've discovered I'm too much of a traditionalist at heart to enjoy that modern take on traditional music.

I've only ever seen the original plus a few small snippets but I'm presuming it was all music that was newly composed by Bill Whelan?

Unlike u2 flatly is just a bit of a knob... Bono is a dickhead.

Both talented though ... yet only one made himself into a James bond

Newry Down

The original Riverdance segment, that was first broadcast as part of Ireland's hosting of the Eurovision song contest was astoundingly good; the team who put the segment together, with Michael Flatly, as the star of the show, a master in his own art, formulated a visual package that will be seen in hundreds of years time.

It was astoundingly good, and several quantum leaps beyond anything that had ever been seen before!

This is precisely why it has endured, and been emulated in other formats.

Michael Flatly, knows he is exceptionally good at what he does; intelligent, capable and from a culture that encourages boastful behaviour that to the less gifted is interpreted, mistakenly as arrogance.

The one other person who impressed me by their professional performance was Gay Byrne's hosting of the Late Late Show in the 1960s in monochrome. He was also masterful in his art!
