Other than a good mix of people, what makes a great social/m&g for you?

Do you like receiving a goodie bag?

Is finger food necessary?

Dont care about the goodie bag but more for the ladies I think anyway

Interesting mix of fabbers is nice

Lots of space to move around between tables otherwise you cant get to socialise

Good music....by that I mean cheesy music to dance to and a slow set

Easy finger food if a late night....sausages,nuggets,easy to prepare for a kitchen

A great host

A good mix of interesting people

Enough space to move around and mingle

Great music and space for dancing

An outside area or side room where it's cooler and quieter

Finger food for a wee energy boost/to soak up some alcohol

A gimmick (for want of a better word) eg entertainment, photo booth, games. It helps break up the night and can promote introductions & interactions

Easy parking and/or a good choice of accommodation close by

Haven't been to one but I know what I'd enjoy.

I'd imagine a few quieter seating or standing areas would be good. To be able to have a more intimate, intent conversation. Lower lighting in some areas to give privacy and ambiance for a tentative flirt or to steal a little PDA (keeping it legal obv)

Maybe that's just me.

I'd also only go if phones and cameras were not allowed.

Hard to do, some people have small kids,

I know any social i have been too very little pics are taken, and if there are most are careful of who is in the background.

I have taken pics of myself and friends at socials.

It's important to me that my children/sitter can reach me if they need to so I'd be unlikely to attend an event where I was unable to bring my phone.

Both times Ive heard of photo's at socials being released it was down to staff not people at it

Phones are a useful tool at a social when you meet people and can hotlist them to catch up with their profiles later

Also maybe to arrange play later

A ban on mobiles isn’t practical imo. People shouldn’t be taking pictures that include anyone in the background or anyone who has not given permission. It’s up to everyone to keep an eye out and let the host know if they notice something they’re not comfortable with.

In this day and age, do we not do that everytime we leave the house?

I understand your concerns but I am of the opinion that it’s not practical to take away peoples phones at a social. At a party, but not at a social.

I don't think your comparison is quite equal. Context matters.

A random pic of me caught by google maps as I dander down main street is different to one taken at a swingers social.

I'm not ashamed of dating or having a sex life. I'm a single adult behaving in a considerate way in public, but that won't matter to my kids when they get bullied by arsey teens should another article get online with pics not blurred. It wouldn't matter that I'd be fully dressed and not up to anything. Kids are shitty to eachother with zero reason bar entertainment.

Once it's out it doesn't matter who gets blamed or if the pics get taken down. The internet is forever.

So, unless and until pics are protected against I'll choose to keep control of my own privacy.

Everyone else can choose their own comfort level

In what way? Its a social in public place thankfully majority of fabbers act like normal people on a night out. I have been to umpteen socials, have ran a few afternoon runs myself and it amazes me the amount of " guys" who say they will.go, than either no reply, or their granny's friends rabbit died, or they want to know where to meet after for the ride.

Go with no expectations other than having a good time meeting and chatting to like minded folks

Because it's a different thing to different people.

Different consequences exist depending on your personal circumstances.

People are at different places in their lives so it's not that simple with a one-fits-all perspective for everyone and definitely too late after the fact to be considering consequences then.

That's all.

It does matter and it is responsible to give it good and proper thought.

It’s a hosts responsibility to minimise risks to the attendees privacy but everyone has to take their own responsibility too.

If you don’t feel comfortable attending events, that’s grand. They’re not compulsory.

I have long debated with myself over them.

Perhaps I will eventually take a chance, who knows. I would imagine it would be a small scale one though, minimises risks

I admit, it's pre Covid since I was at one but socials I've been to have been in a section of pubs, with no real illicit behaviour and nothing to attract the attention of the Sunday World or the like. So not likely kids would hear or connect a pic of anyone with anything they could slag each other off about. You were just out having a few drinks with friends and another party was happening in close proximity.

I don't think you have anything to worry about when going to a social M&G organised by established Fabbers

A good mix of people.

Music but not so loud you can't chat. I don't need a goodie bag.

Food isn't essential either really but I suppose can be handy.

A set up that is easy to move about in and where it's easy to chat to people.
