Not just me then

I fill the kettle at home through the spout, we have one of those skinny little drinking water taps. Elsewhere I tend to open the lid so I don't get splashed

It depends on the kettle. My electric kettle has the handle across the top which makes lifting off the lid quite awkward. Conveniently enough though, it has a lovely wide spout like me.
