Ideal coffee meet spot?

Jump to newest

east

What are your favourite spot for a coffee meet around the country?

For me it has to have good parking, safe public space but private enough for a ha d u der the table, a bit of noise to disguise naughty talk but not too loud to be hard to hear each other.

Any favourites?

The handy ones are the ones with a big carpark thats easy to get in and out of

Fair few Costa coffees are like that or even McDonalds since the coffee is also good

I like Kildare Village or Junction 14 services. Just make sure it's as far away from people listening. I was once up in J14 having coffee with a Fabber we didn't pay any attention to the guy sitting behind us. When I got to my car I got a message from guy off Fab saying did you enjoy your coffee he was the guy behind us

Ideally a car park of a station or hotel, un-classy as it might sound, large enough and not overly busy that you can grab a couple of take-away coffees and have a good natter whether it's at a bench or in one of your cars. Plenty of space and nobody listening in. If it's indoors I just find myself constantly looking over my shoulder and a bit uncomfortable.

Can't comment on Portlaoise, I've been plenty but never related to Fab

The outside balcony in Starbucks on Botanic Ave., Belfast; or the upstairs lounge at the same venue, first thing in the morning when the Bible studies group is meeting, diacussing the good book (as they see it) and praying together. I kid you not!

A group of Iriah fabbers at the adjacent tables would be quite a contrast.

A lovely little cafe, that is very discreet, does great coffee and bakes, has a fabulous canopy for adverse weather, and is in a wonderful setting, is the courtyard cafe in Airfield House, that is adjacent to Balally station on the Luas green line, near to Dundrum.

There is a 9 Euro charge to visit the house and gardens, but the setting is marvellous; and if you enjoy gardening it is very educational.

The cafe at the National Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin is good too, not as discreet as Airfield, but entry is free.

There is also another satellite Botanical Garden, near Rathdrum in Wicklow, but it is not really accessible by any form of public transport; but being less busy is very discreet.

Years ago, there used to be a publication called Hidden Ireland that listed locations for those who wanted a weekend away in a discreet location: some fabulous properties.

The guy I worked for, at that time, made extensive use of that publication!

Two obscure ones I like were,

Dublin airport - easy to get too, parking and nobody notices because usually all tourists or too busy to notice.
