Try going back to the doctor. A swinger forum probably isn't the best place to seek medical advise!!

There are many different antibiotics. A Dr could proscribe something else if given the opportunity

"Really do not want another course of antibiotics.

Unfortunately, if it's a bad chest infection and the first course of antibiotics hasn't worked then, the most likely option will be a 2nd, different course of antibiotics to see if they shift it...

Go back to the doctor and don't let it get any worse..

You might need a course of steroids with the antibiotics. Make sure the doctor doesn't give you penasillon as that's no good for a chest infection. Hope your better soon x

Had one for 3 weeks. 2 courses of antibiotics and 2 courses of steroids. Still have the cough and barely hanging on to my voice. Keep going back to your GP til you get sorted. You'll get get all the Google doctors and witch doctors coming at you with all sorts of advice here.

If the chest infection is caused by a virus, then a course of antibiotics is an inappropriate form of treatment.

Many doctors have had a tendency to hand out types of medication that should be more restricted in order not to increase the prevalence of antibiotic resistance, which is a dangerous trend!

Head back to the doctor and get a full examination including phlegm analysis.

Have an appointment with edoctor this evening.

Even though I'm not feeling well, the nurse had a lovely Northern accent.

Thanks for all the advice much appreciated, never thought of steroids.

Unfortunately there appears to be a right dose going around thats taking some time to clear up. Best bet is to catch up with your gp again.

Don’t go down the road of steroids unless your doctor says so

Due to antimicrobial resistance alot of bacteria infections are mutating and antibiotics are no longer working agents them due to been over prescribed. Doctors use to give out antibiotics for sport and people taking them for the slightest illness.

The extraordinary amount of antibiotics given to animals which are (overly) intensively farmed is a very worrying phenomenon.

This is a serious issue worldwide and especially in China, Brazil, etc.

Antibiotics that are held in reserve, for worst infections are very few.

In Russia and former eastern bloc countries, phages, obtained from sewage outflows, are more widely used but are more targetted.

Antibiotics kill both bad and beneficial bacteria, in the human gut. This depletes the recipient's microbiome, which has long term health implications.

We ourselves, and the medical profession should use antibiotics much more sparingly to protect this miraculous resource, that is being abused.

Some people whose systems are immuno-suppressed need medical intervention to assist them back into homeostasis.

Yes, and it was the nurse who told you. Doctors don't get this important information as part of their training. They're objective is to get rid of the infection through the use of antibiotics. That's important of course but it's also important to know that the antibiotics do serious damage to your good gut bacteria.

Just an fyi to follow, if anyone is prone to UTI and are regularly prescribed antibiotics for same, then try taking a supplement called D-Mannose. This is very effective at helping treat a UTI and taking daily helps prevent recurring infections. It's a simple sugar extract from cranberries.

The awareness within the medical professions of the importance of each person's microbiome, gut bacteria, is based on a lot of research worldwide.

Children that are born by caesarian section have a lifelong depleted amount of beneficial flor on their skin as they did not travel down the birth canal.

Commercial products have too much sugar in them, the liquid type, but a product called Symprove is very good; as is eating lots of fermented foods such as real kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, etc.

Antibiotics are definitely beneficially efficacious, but they have their known downside too.

Only ever use antibiotics when they are really needed; over-prescription is extremely unwise and detrimental, both to the individual and humanity.

Have experience with this lack of information.

I was on course after course of antibiotics for 8 months about 16 or 17 years ago and never a mention of probiotics.

My gut health is shit now as a result and can't process dairy or sugars.

It was a woman in a health food store who asked why I hadn't been advised to take probiotics 7 or 8 years after the event.

Have chest infection for 3 weeks...got antibiotics and steroids....didn't shift it.

Could be RSV(Respiratory syncytial virus) which is doing the rounds. A viral infection so antibiotics don't work.

Starting to feel better now in fourth week.

After the infection has ended, then rebuild your immune system with lots of quality sleep, quality nutrition including foods that are fermented to improve the biome, such as as kefir and sauerkraut.

Outdoor exercise in green spaces and minimisation of stress if possible.
