I've decided to give up drinking for a number of reasons, which means my main social element is gone for the time been. Pubs are too tempting to go back drinking straight away, so I need to remove them for awhile.

So what do you all do to keep entertained??

Try a sky dive for charity you'll love it believe me when your free falling the bar counter will be the least on ur mind and hopefully you'll come back to earth like a maple leaf,

Reading, gaming and physical activity.

When there is socialising to be done go for dinner so the whole thing isn't centered around just drinking

It's easier not to order alcohol in a restaurant

Long walks on beachs or parks

I drive when I go out.

I work a lot. I don't recommend that.

I work out a bit. Far from ripped but fit-ish.

I love my own company. That really helps.

Walks, reading, libraries, coffees out.

Working more , or watching others when d*unk it can be enough to make you stop drinking lol .

Decided to "give up alcohol for a month" and 2 years on haven't touched a drop...

For me, other interests like meeting for a hike on a weekend morning (and not drinking the night before),

Meeting friends in sandwich bar or coffee shop

Exercising and socialising in the gym more...

Doing new activities..

Anyway can say I don't miss alcohol one bit

I quit drinking over 10 years ago for health reasons and 3 day hangovers were not appealing anymore, it left a huge void in my life I'm unashamed to say I was an alcoholic who loved everything about it, tbh I've never really replaced it with anything, I'm bored a lot but it's the new normal and I just get on with it, when I was a drinker I was always broke now ive more money than I know what to do with it and no hangovers, I can't say I'd ever go back, best of luck whatever you do

My comment above may have been flippant but I can't tell anyone how to fill that void because I'm a lifelong non drinker and therefore have never had to find a replacement hobby.

It's not something I've ever understood or have even the slightest interest in understanding because there is zero appeal.

For many people it's a major problem and for many others it's not but regardless there are always more important and interesting things to do.

Having done some serious drinking, occasionally, when I was a student; I came to the conclusion that many people drink booze because of a lack of imagination about how they could more productively and pleasurably, and less expensively use their time.

There are a vast number of potential activities, but it is simply a process of analysis and enactment.

Firstly, do you like being alone or with others?

Do you want to be active or sedentary?

Do you want to improve your life, through self actualisation or do you want to be purposeless?

What do you really value and enjoy?

Drinking as an activity does nothing for me; it costs a fortune; d*unk people talk a lot of cr#p; and there is a history of alcoholism on both sides of my family, so I possibly have a double dose of the alcoholism gene, so best to avoid that specific activity.

Fundamentally, fill your time with activities and people who make you feel good about yourself; start slowly and build up a pleasurable routine, to suit your means!

I gave up drinking last year as part of a weight loss/health reality check. As the others have said hiking and walking with no hangover is bliss!!

I still go out socially and will chat and dance all night... and drive home.

I don't miss it as I can see the benefits...Ana xx

I didn't drink for much of me earlier 20s and depending on how you approach a night out you may well enjoy going out and not drinking. For example if you enjoy people watching or psychology you may enjoy just watching and listening to how people interact. If going out sober is not an option than you'll have loads of time to do whatever you already enjoy a bit more.

It can be difficult to imagine how you can possibly have a life without alcohol if a lot of your socialising centred around the pub and if that is the same for most of your friends, but it'll be the best thing you ever do for yourself.

There's plenty you can do to occupy your time, but a lot of it will depend on what your aim is. Is it simply to keep yourself occupied so that you're not just sitting around and thinking or is it to find another social outlet where you can meet other people?

Not big drinker myself last one April.i go to football matches just to get out and about.would love to meet fab women but havnt been lucky enough yet

I used to be an absolute mess with drink from about 18 to 26. In the last 3 years I just kinda done it less often. I’m going to join a gym soon, so I think working out can provide a better high (endorphins) than drinking ever could!

I don't drink regularly, but I'll hike, sports, boardgames, there's many meet up events where drink is not involved.

I also drive when I go out.

Went through the stage of not knowing what to do with my hands when i didnt have a drink in one and after a long while got used to it.

But realised i made some if not alot of bad decisions when i consumed alcohol.

Once i got over the awkwardness ive had better meets.

Dont get me wrong i still drink but now i pick and choose when kt happens

The Sol

Dance classes if you like dancing. They are great for fitness and it brings a social element too as there can be parties and clubs involved too.

Theres a great variety too.

Set dancing, Jiving, Salsa, Ballroom etc
