Meath / Dublin / Birmingham

A superb qualifying campaign by an incredible bunch of players. Defended at the end as if their lives depended on it.

It's only 5 years since they were changing in public bathrooms and handing back tracksuits before saying enough is enough and campaigning publicly for an improvement in standards and being treated with a bit of respect.

Buzzing for them. A World Cup... what an achievement.

So thrilled for them & hopefully this will bring a bit more equality to the game. As me & my 16 year old daughter went to a under 12 lads club final match on Saturday, she brought up that the under 12 lads were playing on the main pitch at our main county venue for a club final, where as she, who has played County soccer & for 4 years has never played on it..

Such a hullabaloo over nothing! Pro IRA songs are sung in every dressing room after county final wins. It doesn’t mean the people singing them are pro IRA; they are just good songs for a sing song! I don’t see the English media making as big a deal about James McClean being bullied and gettin death threats for refusing to wear the poppy

The song in question has a line which mentions the grafitie on the wall outside parkhead and at one stsge when the song was been written the gfafitie said "uh ah up the raa " must we check every lyrics of every single song now before we sing them. . What about the derry air mentioning the British army with their tanks and guns are we not allowed sing that either. Or the men behind the wire where it mentions British soldiers dragging sons from their beds while helpless mothers watch the blood pour from their heads . The most of these songs are based on actual events can we not sing about history anymore.

This is taking away from what is an amazing achievement by this team.

The song was short sighted,

But we’ve got a team of girls in a World Cup.

Somthing all our young women can look up too and can be proud off.

With the likes of Taylor and Harrington,

As a 'northerner' I'll just say that the experience of living every day in fear. Of getting on a bus. Of walking past a check point. Of passing through an area of 'the other side'.

Hearing an explosion near by.

Seeing the news and wondering if someone you know is okay.

That never leaves you.

Feelings around this are informed by your experience and your perspective.

It's harmless to many who lived it from a distance.

It's just a song to those who have come along after the worst.

But we all need to be smart and set it all down and take a big long step away from it or we'll forever have it on our backs

Were people meant to just sit there and take it? Bloody Sunday, internment, ballymurphy massacre, just to name a few. ‘Those north’s causing trouble as usual’"

Have friends from the North and know well about the troubles etc but you mean to tell me noone else sings these songs, plenty of examples of English clubs singing derogatory songs etc

Yes it's not right but the while media circus that has taking place is stupid, they made a mistake, have apologised but now there's investigations been carried out, again with all the atrocities that has gone on in this country this is the one that just sees to keep running and running.

Ah, a Kildare man. Never grew up in Belfast and witnessed what the British government/loyalists down to catholics for years. Murder, collusion, burnt from your house (murdered like the Quinn kids for being a Catholic) not to mention internment, Bloody Sunday, ballymurphy massacre. You were never treated lower than a dog by the British and loyalists but you feel free to throw your opinion in.

You could be right about the Legal matter off song being sung in Scotland , but it has been sung many a time at away games by 1 well known Scottishs team supporters, and said team where the only team to hold a 1 minute silence for the people who died in County Donegal , and lets not forget the Irish girl from the football Team who dedicated the throphy she recevied to the people who passed away in County Donegal, once again overlooked

Ironic that the British media give out about this song being an issue and yet the song "rule Britannia" is all about how great their empire was and how colonisation was a force for good that's differently not problematic in any way not like Britain ever stood by and exported food from Ireland and India while both suffered famine's in 1845 and 1943 and committed countless other crimes around the world always ironic when they say others should be educated on history when really they are the ones who need to be educated on their own history sadly their education system glosses over most of it meaning people outside of Britain are the experts.

Honestly the the irony isn't lost on some people and let's not forget this fabulous achievement by these young women by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup which has unfortunately been lost in the middle of this shit show and we should be all incredibly proud of this team #Coygig
