Anti-Social Workers

Based in Kerry, work in Cork.

Possibly a title that lends itself to misinterpretation, but are there many others here who work in hospitality or some other industry with anti-social working hours?

As in, it's not paid enough relative to the cost of living or its not enough to compensate for the lifestyle?

This is why there is a staffing crisis in many businesses, that will endure.

That definitely is the case at the moment. In my industry there's a huge shortage of staff. I've left one company to go back to my previous job because what they were offering me is unheard of so I jumped at at.

Went back to the company I was with previously. Better role and renumeration with a contracted management position guaranteed in writing in the next 6 months. I pick my own hours. My own team and from next month I'm getting travel allowance. I originally left them because the money was way better where I was going to. But now I'm doing less hours, have more time to myself and I'm bringing home just as much. Less stress and more energy now too.

Have been working unsociable hours for 23yrs and in one of the lowest paid industries and will continue to do so until I retire as I love the job that I do and know that I make a small difference to people's lives and toe that's just as important as money

Middle of mayo n peaceful tranquility

I work anti social hours and Kind of caught in the system now as the money is good but 24 hours working with service users burns you out. It can take me hours to unwind from the shifts .

I’m a trucker I start each morning in this job at 5 am finish approx 6-7 pm but previous job I started at 2 am and worked right through till 8-9 pm I was burnt out

Most of my work is in unsociable hours. I'm used to it but it's not great trying to have a relationship when you are coming in from work at 4 am in mornings. Probably one of reasons I'm divorced

The money is OK but the commuting, the different shifts and lack of sleep took its toll on my body and mental health. Working weekends and missing out on nights out etc

My work is just long shifts sometimes nights as well and I work a lot of weekends and holidays like Easter,Christmas bank hols it's just lucky if I get any of them off.But it's a steady income and has been all through the pandemic when so many others lost their jobs.

I've experience of working antisocial hours in the past can be lonely as everyone else is out while you're working....all day work now ....wouldn't go back unless it was a necessary

Im not in hospitality or the service industry but I’m on call a lot and have been for 14 years now and my job involves a lot of after hours and night works so it can be anti social

Over 20 years now on constantly rotating days and nights. I’m so tired of it and have huge regrets in terms of what the cost to my family has been. I’m in too far to back out now, gotta hang on for the pension.

I work long hours and then I’m a oncall volunteer 24/7 which is busy… people often ask me if I like it and the answer is no I don’t like it….

Have done on call rosters in hospitals for 20 odd years now. I have managed to get off the rota and feel so much better for it. It was just hell, the constant fatigue was really bad. Would never be able to do it again and fingers crossed I won't have too
