Far far away

Having a reminiscing Friday and thinking back to the uber massive nightclubs in Ireland. The "erection section" slow set, the 1 euro buds, and shift and drift. If anyone here is old enough to remember getting food as part of your entry ticket! Wondering if anyone has stories of their current or past clubbing days.

Aahh. Those were the days. Full of mystery, trepidation, excitement and expectation that usually ended in frustration, dejection, and abject misery.

Just like fab really for most lads!

The West

I was old enough to catch the last few years of the food in clubs.

Place I used to frequent served chicken breast, mashed potatoes, peas and gravy at 10:00pm

All free once you entered the club, great times!

The chicken curry on the paper plate

The lights coming on and you realised the look of despair isn't a good luck

Getting turned down by the bouncers because you had white socks on

Cheesecloth shirts with Denim wastecoats

Everyone doing the dance to Staying Alive

The people with long hair taking over the floor when Black Betty was played

Don't think there is an erection section now at clubs, young ones nowadays just don't understand and never will, should be brought back

Belfast

Never been in a nightclub that held more than a couple of hundred people and the last time I was in one was 1989. They all opened at 9 and closed at 1.

There were only two that gave out food. One had chicken in a basket when you first went in and if you didn't claim it by 10 you didn't get it.

The other just gave out bowls of chips on each table around 10pm.

Somewhere in Co. Down

I remember getting curried chips in a nightclub when I first started going to them.It wasn't the best curry though.

The slow set was when you either hid in the loos to avoid someone or hoped the guy you liked might ask you to dance. And the last song of the night was usually celebrate by an emotional fish.

Nijinsky's, in the curragh, shitty burger , mash and beans, sometimes when hungry (as only a 16year old could be), I'd collect meal tickets and have 2 or 3 helpings....

I think it was the law in certain premises, you had to provide food after a particular time .

It was the law here...a substantial ( sub standard) meal had to be supplied by law so they could stay open till 2.00am

Aw the food my local nightclub done kebabs or 3-in-1s. All joking aside, it must have worked. Os I used to be able to do 4 nights a weekend with work thrown in. No I can't have 5 beers without being man down for 3 days

Great memories all round. I still remember cotton eyed Joe and the macerana.... Think the dance moves are hidden in my sub conscious. The joker who asked a gang of girls to dance one after another... And wonder why he got turned down... Simpler times...

I used to DJ in the late 90’s and the Craic was mighty, Tuesday was CluB30, Thursday was student night and then the Friday and Saturday was balls to the wall.

The older ladies always liked to visit the DJ box

I do remember grabbing a paper plate with food after the lights went up no clue where. Other thing standing in the middle of the dance floor when lights go on and national anthem played. Mad times and during rave era the pub turning off the water and toilets not working.

Ha, shifting and drifting was great fun.

Having a shot at the bar after chatting up a girl at the bar, same goes if got good dance moves

Nothing like having craic with someone in the pub and meeting them in the nightclub later.

Many a night queuing for chips.

Loughlinstown

All those 80's and 90's hits, leg warmers, big hair, crepes, george webbs, etc and cheesy tunes. When the slow set came on, it was time to step up or get off the floor

You could get a hot dog with your ticket at my local. Lots of ketchup and mustard in those snogs later on!!

Them be da days!

Northside

Tomangoe's....where the gang goes! They used to serve chips and a 1/4 pounder with no bun covered in gravy. Or else chicken curry and rice. You wouldn't give it to the dog but at 11 o clock after a rake of drink,it was bleedin gorgeous!! Except when you belched an hour later and could still taste it!
