HSE has a free Counselling in Primary Care service, your friend could ask gp for a referral.

Its good to talk ... cost effective definitely... also tend to begin within few weeks ..

You might suggest to your friend to maybe contact Samaritans... 24/7 and often recommended to clients by their counselor out of hours ... 116123 freephone

I know a psychotherapist who gives hour long sessions of therapy to his clients over Skype, he gets paid through PayPal or revolout, unfortunately its the same price as meeting in person so that's no good to you, just because its not in person doesn't mean it'll be cheaper, he actually prefers it this way as he doesn't need an office nor does he even need to clean his house beforehand if he was using his home as an office
