Music that leaves you awestruck

Jump to newest

Ok folks, trying to get more involved and after a bottle of wine I've turned to Spotify on this fine Saturday nighy. So let's see what you can come up with?

Give me one song (and the artist) that has left you awestruck?

I'll start:

Ships in the night (live)

Ryan montbleau.

"17 going under" by Sam Fender! I'm years older than him but I can relate to a lot of the lyrics in that song. The volume goes way up when it's on and I get goosebumps every time I hear it!!

Pearl Jam - Black MTV Unplugged.

https://youtu.be/n-0rmLDQxUE

Glen Hansard - Iveagh Gardens

One for the lyrics and emotional singing, the second for the same but also the atmosphere, the love and the Oh I Wish to God I was at that!

Do them on YouTube in surround sound for proper effect

It’s about technology Taking over. Released in 97 it certainly was ahead of its time. Listening to it whilst walking on an autumn wet day is quite an experience

ROD STEWART done a version of this song..which brought it to a much bigger song. And of course its the true story of a woman marrying her true love in prison the night before he was shot and murdered in Kilmainhan.

Forgot to mention Raglan Road sung by Luke Kelly.

Possibly the greatest singer and Irishman ever!

I couldn't just single out one song of his though, as he gets to the graw of every Irish person, especially those of us who left for London or further afield. There's something about Luke Kelly singing that draws us home, be it in mind or body.

So here's a selection of him leading The Dubliners.

For the skippers, Raglan Road is around thirty I Couldn't Give A Shite because you should listen to all of it ya feckin heathens

https://www.google.com/search?q=Luke+Kelly+live&oq=Luke+Kelly+live+&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60j0i22i30l5j0i390.8894j0j7&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:772e2f4b,vid:45nSlL751eo,st:0

Sorry but one I think is missing but I still consider a classic is Song for Ireland so - https://youtu.be/WwpEDYXAbJg

It's a slide show as I believe he died soon after recording this.

If you're looking for legends, look to Luke

Can't believe there is only a single passing hint to Pink Floyd.

Anything they did is light years ahead of most other bands and Dave Gilmoure? That man has magic in his hands that makes a guitar come to life. Some of the music they created just takes you to another place. Usually not a happy one though.
