"There is huge money behind the vegan campaign, loads of highly processed crap, containing multiple ingredients, most of which would not be considered food if served on their own, all smartly packaged to pretend its saving the planet " --------- Agreed. There's even a push towards veganism and "movies" spouting how a plant based diet is superior to a meat based one... Case in point, in GAME CHANGERS, Nate Diaz (a vegan) beats Conor McG (a meat eater) proving the superiority of a plant based diet So going on a vegan diet trumps talent, drive and athletic ability

"I think you can be a modern man without being like one of the happy pear lads You don't need to be vegan, but it's good to have an awareness and an ethical idea of what you eat and how you live. Not just accepting the status quo and instead making your own conscious choices about what's right and wrong. I don't think you need to be meek, but being in touch with the feminine side, while having the urge to protect and step up if necessary. You don't need to be an eco warrior, but you aren't throwing your can out of the car window, and are doing your part within the constraints that you live within. Modern masculinity isn't toxic masculinity, but a considered and considerate masculinity which doesn't need to punch down to feel strong." Nicely put

"I've no issue with veganism, or anyone's diet for that matter (and I don't know why why it's such an issue for some of ye)..but those Happy Pears lads are enormously irritating. Air of smugness of them. Pricks." For the record, I have no issues with anyone who chooses to eat a vegan diet! I just thought it amusing that according to the Google search for modern man qualities, as pointed out, among the first 3 listed, veganism was one. Frankly, I think there are a lot more important qualities and attributes a man can have (modern or not) than how they choose to nourish themselves! Now it's a study of 2000 people by Wilkinson Sword (if I remember correctly), so not exactly a huge cohort of opinions. But working nicely in line with the current climate change topic - where the meat industry and farmers are slaughtered (excuse the pun)

"In the last few years I have reduced my meat intake to 1 cow 1 pig and half a sheep. I voted for a gay guy in the local election last time out. I spend an extra 1 minute to trim my pubic hair to make sure it’s even. I invested in a proper set of wrenches and rarely use a vise grip and hammer any more. I’m even contemplating using a body wash instead of shampoo to wash my hairy chest in the shower. I nearly cried when Galway lost to limerick in the hurling. I’m going to read my first book anytime soon. I don’t think you can get more modern. " This is so raw and emotional. Well done, you are definitely an inspiration for men. Keep it up lad

" - Can put up shelves - Has a skincare regime - Enjoys baking - Happy to have a self-pamper night - face mask, bubble bath - Meditates - Drinks cocktails - Does yoga " Stuff like this this I find ridiculous on any 'modern man' list. A modern man should have compassion and empathy, and that's pretty much it. Outside of that he should be free to have whatever likes or interest he has without being judged for them. Men's mental health, especially young men, is a huge issue and shit like 'here's a list of 100 things you need to do to be a modern man to attract a women" are terrible f9r young men's mental health.

"I treat everyone with equal respect. I hold the door for ladies and elderly. I’m as tough as nails but I have a therapist. I curse like a docker but can compose a letter that equals any solicitor. I don’t sugarcoat things and I don’t tell lies. I slag everyone including vegans, pescatarians, LGBTQ+, minorities, disabled and anyone else who pops their head above the trenches. I will also be the first person to help them should they need it. I eat meat and drive a diesel van and car. I don’t subscribe to the electric vehicle will save the world ideology. I eat meat and do manual labour. I have no problem with changing nappies on either end of the spectrum, young or old. I am a modern man in my opinion. I put stock in tradition but form my own decision on facts where possible. I’m not easily led and am sceptical about most things. Following fads blindly is a sure fire path to failure. Modern or not, just be you and be true to yourself and you won’t go too far wrong. " With the exception of the therapist you could actually be describing me and I'd have no bother speaking to one should the need arise! I'd add to that my old fashioned manners and if that makes me a "modern" man then great. If not,I couldn't give a shite! Take me as I am and we'll get on just fine. If anyone has issues with how I carry myself then they can get the boat!! One way ticket, preferably!!

"This thread makes me need to take a deep breath... Without the rant, a "modern man" doesnt exist, its a concept created in a think tank and comes through journalism as a type of Propeganda.. " ------------ Am not promoting "modern man" in any way so 100% understand your stance I just think the odd elephant in the room always needs to be addressed and challenged though instead of men trying to measure up to some nonsensical societial demands that are propagated by Advertisers and the media

"Ahh sorry OP, i should have clarified better.. nothing against you at all.. just the topic itself! You're spot on! Its just one of those topics that gets me going in terms of debate and i can be a bit of a typer when passionate (as my profile clearly shows) lol Just had to say it but still bite my tongue enough so everyone on fab wouldn't be subject to the new release of Ulysees and my paragraphs on human psychology and societal pressures etc now adays Its a topic Id love to discuss in person, but in writing where so much can be misconstrued.. i refrained from getting into it as you ensure i kept my fab reputation in tact as a "Modern Man" lol I think you have a good grasp on it yourself! " ----------- No harm in some spontaneous writing at all and as a fellow "modern man" will be understanding and accepting of any typos, just as long as no one gets offended in any way If you get a chance mate, listen to any video by Richard Grannon on society and pm me
