I've always disliked my Christian name but the funny thing is - I wouldn't change it because it's mine...

I have a teen who identifies transgender and who has chosen a gender neutral name to be called by so I'm respecting those wishes as part of the process.

Regardless of gender or identity - do you like your given name or would you prefer to change it? If so, what would it be?

I'd be even less inclined to use my middle name - it truly is awful - I don't know what my parents were thinking

I don't mind my name I have a double barrel name, and funny enough if I'm called it I don't like it. Some family members insist on calling me by the full name.

Having a name that can be abbreviated is a pain. I like my name. People who use it properly make me smile inside

I didn't like my name as a child so changed the spelling was a bloody nightmare when getting married as I didn't do it legally so had to change it back but people call me by it or shorty.

I'm used to my name by now, I do wish lazy people would stop calling me by a completely different one though

Tbh I'd probably change my surname instead, it's a very unusual one which is frankly a fucking nuisance

I do not like my given name for multiple reasons.

It's a somewhat old-fashioned and – even in Germany – semi-uncommon biblical name that English speakers usually can't pronounce properly (although at this stage I completely filter that out).

It's also often mistaken for a middle eastern name due to ignorance, and along with my strong beard growth and easy tendency to tan when I'm out and about more often, I've been mistaken for a quite different nationality on multiple different occasions.

If I would choose a name for myself (or any future child of mine) it would have to meet multiple criteria: a name that's not easy to make fun of, a name that is ether short or easy to abbreviate, and a name that is multinational and works well in both English and German. Something like Henry.

But at this stage I don't think I'll change my name. :p

My real first name is incredibly boring, I'd definitely change it. I like my surname though, I use the Irish spelling of it.

somewhere

Always Hated my Christian name ..was named after my dad and always pissed me off that it wasn't any of my brothers that got his name

Now if we're all out my brothers call my dad by his first name and I call him dad cause I wont use his real name

However my kids tried calling me by my first name a few years ago....told them no I wanted to be called dad and not by my first name They asked my mother for my middle name....changed all my streaming services to my middle name and have called me that name since ...the little feckers say its not my real name

Kids...who'd have them

Jameson main bar

I never really liked my first name cause it seemed kinda boring but it's the one my folks gave me and couldn't imagine being called anything else really. It frustrates me now when ppl just call be by the shortened version despite the fact that I don't introduce myself that way.

I did actually go by Boris online for a couple of years but I think ppl thought I was a creep and a weirdo so I left it behind. Nowadays I just accept my real name in whatever way ppl want to say it. It's mine and I'm OK with it now

I changed mine

When I was in my late teens someone who used to live next door to us told me that I was named after her as my mother couldn't decide what to call me (she was born around the same time as me)

Once I confirmed this I changed it

Gah

I’ve a very unusual first and second name.

I don’t think I’d change it tho, I’m used to it now LOL!

I can’t seem to think of a name that would suit me better tho, having an unusual name has shaped me.

My oldest spawn has changed their name which is fine because they were badly (hurriedly) named. We support that.

I've always said ,there is no translation of a names. Your name is your name designated to you from the language your parents speak(most commonly)

Like a Pierre is still Pierre if in an English speaking country. Why translate to Peter. Peter would not be the persons name

I agree.

It's amazing how many aren't too fond of their name but still wouldn't change it. Your own little "label" in a world that seems to hate labels

I have an Unique name as, accordingly with Google) you cannot find anyone with my same name (spelled correctly).

No I would not change my name... I would just hope people were able to copy it correctly when dealing with bureaucracy
