"North of the border: the massive Ulster Museum in Botanic Park is an award winning facility, and The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum out at Cultra, near Bangor is very good. The American Folk Park near Omagh was good and there are a couple of museums, representing both traditions, in the Maiden City of Derry. On Cregagh Road in Belfast there is a museum at the HQ dedicated to the Orange Order. Bagenal's Castle in Newry has a dedicated museum." That's very far from Dublin

"The Chester Beatty Library is amazing. Really interesting and worth the visit " I'll second that, and when you're in there, Dublin Castle itself is full of history, given that it was the seat of British administration in Ireland for centuries. Depending on what you're into, Arbour Hill cemetery is one of the hidden gems, given that it holds the grave of the executed rebels from 1916. The republican plot in Glasnevin is also interesting given that it's packed with names from the history books. The vaults of St. Michans Church in Church Street is one of the very unusual ones. You'll need to prebook it though. https://dublin.ie/live/stories/supernatural-dublin-st-michans-church/
