Dublin Museums ?

Jump to newest

This is a bit of an out there post. I really enjoy going to museums. I haven’t been to one in a while as I’ve just been to busy. I want to try go into to down to check some out.

I’ve been to the national gallery, hugh lane etc. I was wondering if anybody knows of anything else ? Or has some suggestions for other cool things like that to do in town?

I heard the museum of literature is quite good and the IFC (I think it’s called) is too.

If anybody would like to check them out and hangout don’t be afraid to reach out.

The Natural History Museum is closed still, as far as I know.

Epic, the famine museum on the quays is worth a visit in my opinion.

I think he's passed on . The local fishmonger/seafood restaurant on the quays used to feed him his dregs...was quite funny seeing Sammy waiting patiently, and even making his way across the street to remind him of dinner time

I don't think it ever reopened after covid. It's had a troubled history.

Newry Down

North of the border: the massive Ulster Museum in Botanic Park is an award winning facility, and The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum out at Cultra, near Bangor is very good.

The American Folk Park near Omagh was good and there are a couple of museums, representing both traditions, in the Maiden City of Derry.

On Cregagh Road in Belfast there is a museum at the HQ dedicated to the Orange Order.

Bagenal's Castle in Newry has a dedicated museum.

I'll second that, and when you're in there, Dublin Castle itself is full of history, given that it was the seat of British administration in Ireland for centuries.

Depending on what you're into, Arbour Hill cemetery is one of the hidden gems, given that it holds the grave of the executed rebels from 1916. The republican plot in Glasnevin is also interesting given that it's packed with names from the history books.

The vaults of St. Michans Church in Church Street is one of the very unusual ones. You'll need to prebook it though.
