We live in modern times but technically you can argue either way, depending on the narrative you follow.

In the Bible, God rested on the seventh day, or the Sabbath (Saturday), after creating the Earth:

"Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. (Genesis 2:3)"

Meaning Sunday is the first day of the week because Saturday was the day of rest after creation.

With industrialisation and a 5 day working week, Monday became the first day of the week after a weekend whereby Sunday became the last day of the week.

Tuesday just because I hate Monday and can’t rest on Sunday either way to busy getting ready for the week ahead so definitely Tuesday

A perfect analysis: clear, concise and complete. A*

Well it's actually Sunday, just open your calendar on your phone and Sunday is the 1st Day of the week but as most peoples work week starts on Monday and the weekend Sat/Sun is there down time so everyone sees Monday as the start of the week and Sunday as the end. It's a bit like the debate about which months are in which season and there are 2 answers to the questions, both are correct as in the Astronomical seasons and Meteorological seasons but the seasons are a month ahead on Astronomical calendar

I don't follow this. If the 7th day is the rest day (which is sunday).. then the day after that is going to be the first non-rest day.. so should be considered the first working day when a new week starts. The rest day is from all the work done (creating the earth, and the animals, polio, ecoli, etc) and so was the end of the week, not the start of the next week???

So biblically...

He worked Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

..that's 6 days

And on the 7th day he rested. So that's Sunday.

Then that means he started work on a Monday. That was the beginning. Monday is the beginning of the week.

Well obviously it's utter nonsense... but when people were figuring shit like the days of the week out then they had to base it on something. It might as well have been the day the 6 days that the flying spaghetti monster made holy dinner. On Monday is was carbonara, on Tuesday it was bolognese, on Wednesday is was spaghetti hoops etc. Same shit different fairytale.

My post clearly states that the seventh day, the day of rest is Sabbath which is Saturday, not Sunday.

In Jewish faith, the rest day or 7th day after 6 days of "creation" work is the Sabbath. Sabbath is Saturday, hence God worked the 6 days previous - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Also - for those of Christian and Jewish faith, Sunday is the most important day of the week. Not only is it the day when God created Earth, it also comes after the day of rest (Saturday!), that gets us ready for the week. In Catholicisim, it also states in the Bible that the church is meant to assemble on the first day of the week, which would be Sunday mass - hence in biblical or religious terms (Jewish and Catholicism anyway) Sunday is the first day of the week.

Looking at historic aspects, it's an interesting discussion.

The reality today is, religion has seen better days, we have become industrialised, and in this day and age are working 24/7 so your weekend, if you're lucky to get one, may fall on a completely different day than mine in working terms and the same therefore goes for the first day of the week
