I think this was the main criticism from last year the fact they had young good looking people chiseled abs super model types etc

This years are supposedly a more normal everyday bunch beer bellies and flab lol not that I'd watch that tripe if you paid me.

We were fans of it up until the last season. We gave up half way through after everyone just started arguing all the time. We're giving it another go tonight tho.

I tried watching it the year Maura Higgins was in it, but I just couldn't get in to it and packed it in very early. Maybe I'm old and grumpy, but I think it might be more detrimental for people watching. Guys and girls thinking they aren't "skinny enough" or "hot" enough, constantly seeking validation, etc. Personally I think they should have a mixture of ages and body types, but I suppose that's not what people want to see. If people enjoy it so be it. Each to their own after all.

Used to watch it a few years back when Chris and Gem were on it. Now it’s kinda repetitive and basically the same shit every year. Totally agree would be so much better if they had average normal people not these supermodels. Or if they did a allstars version where only people from the old series are in it

Love Island, which is an exceptionally popular tv format, will be lambasted, ridiculed and criticised by people whom the program is not targetted at.

Lots of young, very young people live in a wannabe culture where celebrity and fame is their goal, however superficial and ephemeral that might appear to be to more cynical, more experienced and wiser heads.

I have only over once fleetingly seen this program, but I read lots of critical appraisals in academic journals and by TV pundits in quality rags; regrettably I think that two contestants or participants committed suicide, and although over 100,000 people applied this year, most were headhunted for their 'talent'.

The program is not aimed at my age group, and does not appeal to me, but as a concept it has been very well designed if somewhat exploitative of vulnerable and impressionable people, whose mental welfare needs to be more carefully met by the producers and the directors, whose ultimate goal is audience numbers to maximum advertising revenue.

It's all about money, in the final analysis; the participants are simply attractive cannon fodder!

I find the "it should be more mature down to earth people" thinking funny.

That would make terrible TV as everyone would act sensibly and sit around on their best behaviour knowing their friends and family will be watching this.

Reality TV attracts a certain type of personality and the producers know what will create content

I have no interest, however...... a couple of years back a group of us were in a friend's house for a few pre drinks. Was mad to get into town but all the ladies started watching love island and most of the fellas were "forced" to watch it. Having not been able to beat them I had to join them and was quite surprised at how watchable it was......

Don't tell the lads I said that though

You don't know these people to call them air heads just because they are attractive? there's an Irish guy on the show who is literally a scientist not to mention over the past few years there's been a doctor, teacher and countless others who have successful occupations. Don't judge a book by its cover

We watch it with our teenage kids. It brings us all together in the evening to have a chat/laugh about the shenanigans and it's lovely.

We like to people watch and the different relationships developing; the couples, the bromances, the girl pals, the allegiances, loyalties, betrayals and the bitching. Yes, I think some of the new characters are brought in to stir things up and are doing it to perfection. It's heavily edited to give certain impressions and to sway opinion. But no, not everyone is acting, most of them are not. Neither are they actually looking for love, it's all about raising their profile and good luck to them.

It's refreshing to hear our kids slate the contestants for their stupidity/ignorance/arrogance/body enhancements, which they do a lot. But they also give credit where it's due, some of the people are good people.

Many who slate LI have never watched it or can't get past the 'body beautiful' aspect of it. For me it is a positive motivator to eat better and to keep up the exercise regime as I contemplate wearing a bikini on holidays in the near future (realising perfectly that I am more than double their age!).

There is more than one way to react to perfectly sculpted bodies in swimwear. Most of us viewers aren't actually crippled with insecurities regardless of our own body size. We simply enjoy the escapism that it brings.

And didn't Molly Mae do well for herself

Mrs

People admired them for there achievements and the progress they brought to society. As opposed to... well just a poor example , vanity and narcissism mostly.

Ah that's a bit selective. Your talking about names that are still recognisable today. Not the minute of fame names of the time.

Musk, Gates, hawking will be the same. Nobody will be able to recall who was on season 4 of divorce volcano on 10 years.

The same process happens with music. Where the stone cold classics of a whole decade ger compared to x factors latest single
