Personally I was wondering how this weekend was received in Ireland considering Ronan Keating was a Co presenter during the day..

No doubt amongst Irish guards on parade there may well have been some from the Republic..

Can recall when Liz visited Ireland 10 odd years ago eyebrows were raised when the Republic of Cork was included on the itinerary...yet would it be fair to say it was where she received the warmest welcome especially in the English Market even if protocol wasn't adhered to..!!

No doubt some will be totally anti British.. some though anti will have respect for the celebrations as OP shows...

For what it's worth got great affinity personally for Ireland.. prior to getting involved with a Derry woman a few years ago I through ignorance because this side of the water we were spoon fed information I referred to the above mentioned city with the L prefix..something I don't do now unless calling it legendDerry

My thoughts as I posted on another thread

if one is in anyway interested in positions being awarded on merit then it’s hypocritical to celebrate someone ‘achieving’ the pinnacle of our public life through who gave birth to them.

the Monarchy props up an entire class system which works against this very idea. Look at where a succession of prime ministers studied.

With the Queen at the top, a shining beacon of privilege of birth, it is always going to be more difficult to have a society where people achieve positions on the basis of merit. It was an important driver for me leaving a nation which operates on a borderline ‘caste’ system.

As for royals bringing tourists in , well those buildings will still be there if the monarchy is abolished.

It's one thing that constantly amazes me, the sheer amount of reverence and outright arse licking to the queen of England.

Then again I'm just one of these mad people who finds the idea of a monarchy in the year 2022 a little bit nuts...

Yep, I find this argument gas every time it's brought up. As of a couple of years ago, Buckingham Palace was bringing in just over half a million tourists a year. Versailles - you know, the place where the monarchy doesn't exist anymore and it's now a museum - hosts around 10 million!

Meh.

She gave an mbe to the head of the most hate filled, sectarian organisation on these islands, the orange order.

Last night we then see the video of the Dundonald Orange Lodge celebrating her jubilee by singing a "hilarious" little song about the murder of Michaela McAreavey.

Vile is too small a word for this organisation. How anyone could think giving it an award is beyond me.

The brits love their class system and accordingly admire its highest ranking individual.

Yeah shes amazing alright.

Her and all her ilk living the high life off the british tax payer, while keeping that alleged kiddie fidler of a son "andrew" all hidden away, and wrapped in bubble wrap, because he suddenly has covid.

Yeah right, mummy paid for his freedom (with taxpayers money) and for it all to be swept under the carpet.

"Now Andrew,my little peado son (allegdly),you sit in there out of the publics view, while mummy waves down at all these lesser fools who pay for all this luxury, and your legal costs too".

We will just say you got covid, and cant be seen out in public. So stay in there,my little peado son (allegdely) and dont ruin my day in the public spotlight".

The Royal family are freeloading peado protecting (alledgely) leeches, and nothing but that, and the british public are slowly starting to see that its all bullshit with the queen and her ilk.

I think if she's not well enough to attend a ceremony in her own honour then it's probably time to step down. It'll be great seeing how King Charles fuck it all up anyway.

Head of state role should be up for a democratic vote. Candidates voted on merit by the people. The rite to succession is from the stone age and not fit for a modern world

Not gonna happen. They are pretty much only for the tourism value at this stage anyway. The prime minister has the actual power and they are elected.

The concept of monarchy in these times is abhorrent and I think on its way out

There is not as much kow-towing now as there was formerly and a lot of citizens consider the UK Windsor/Battenburg/Sax Coburg Gotha family to be an expensive anachronism.

They are effectively a German family who changed their name to Windsor, during the First World War in order to try to distance themselves from their German relations; millions died amongst the peasantry in what was a war between royal cousins.

I detect a lack of real enthusiasm about this Platinum Jubilee; Andrew's absence due to Covid seems rather convenient.

The Windsors are experts at public relations, but I suspect the public are fed with paying for the pampered lifestyles of these privileged elites.

They should be consigned to the history books; they mostly acquired their riches by theft.

The annual gong system is another anachronism of a failed empire that exploited, robbed and corrupted on a vast scale worldwide, before the greedy colonisers were kicked out, including from Ireland.

The Queen is obligated to support the policy of the prime minister and the cabinet. The Parliament has supreme power, voted for by the electorate.

The Queen has very little executive or political power.

"She made jimmy saville a knight. That's all i have to say. "

Jimmy Savile acquired his knighthood (and his papal gong) by ingratiating himself with influential people; Margaret Thatcher recommended Savile and he had wormed his way into the Royal inner sanctum for decades; he could turn up at a variety of Royal palaces and wander around.

Savile, whom I met and conversed with on a couple of occasions was highly intelligent, but no genius

He knew how to ingratiate himself and kept a massive contacts book at his flat near Roundhay Park, Leeds.

The penthouse apartment has been completely taken off the building to remove any trace of Jimmy Savile.
