Imagine forking out big money for flights and holidays, you go to the airport 4-5 hours before your flight and still miss it!!...With security so bad it's only a matter of time before there is trouble, a riot of some sort!

This chaotic shambles is the consequence of poor planning short sightedness and mismanagement: penny pinching results in staff being fully integrated into the airport's security system too late, in order to cut costs.

Airports are no longer public services nowadays; they are businesses designed to generate a surplus for shareholders, both individuals and financial institutions.

The bottom line, profit, is the core measure of success, not improved service to airline users since the airports in Ireland are a cartel.

To leave this country by aircraft can only be achieved at a handful of locations!

Apparently DAA can’t recruit staff. Or retain them. It takes ages to train someone and they can’t find trainers!!! At least Cork is some bit normal. They might add more flights to cork airport now

Because up until very recently they were only offering part time contracts for new staff.

Ah rights. It seems the only way to get it working properly is to completely privatise it. Anything in this country that is state or semi state ran is a shambles

They're only offering a little above minimum wage, with 12 hour shifts and only guaranteed 20 hrs per week, or at least that was the recruitment drive they had going a few weeks ago.

Yeah I have a mate who was let go and then begged to come back on worse conditions and pay Backfired on them now and they’ll be forced to up the ante wage wise in order to even get the staff!

I think they said they had 4000 applications for the 700 jobs they advertised. I'm presuming the training it's the current issue, or they're just not attracting the right candidates.

Wage subsidy scheme allowed companies to retain staff as 80% of wage (up to €40k-ish) was paid by the government

Two years of pandemic have caused many people to re-evaluate the priorities in their lives, and how they choose to spend their time in the work-life balance.

Many employers are only now awakening to the fact that employees are no longer prepared to work for wages that are too low to allow them to enjoy life.

Many older workers, who are still fit and able have simply decided to retire permanently. I have effectively made that decision; a new social contract between owners and employees is required.

I would readily work, but an employer would have to pay a preiym above the minimum wage to get me.

There are historical parallels: after the Black Death pandemic had ravaged the working population in England, farm workers demanded much better work conditions because of their scarcity and land owners deeply resented this fundamental shift in the balance of power.

Business owners will now have to be prepared to provide these new scarce employees with proper wages and conditions, but will deeply resent having to do so because profits will fall significantly.

I would not go to work in DAA, Dublin Airport, because the place is a chaotic shambles, whose raison D'etre is paying as little as possible for a job that is grief-laden.

This is an international problem,especially in western industrialised economies where automation is the ultimate objective.

I was at Dublin Airport on Sunday; it was horrendous.

Thats because nobody uses the airport in fairness....if there's demand airlines would step in...they haven't

I flew to London 3 weeks ago ...hit airport at 8am ....out of security in 5 mins .....its a lottery at the moment
