I know the owner is a it of a that pro brexit and his policy of not paying his workers due to been closed because of covid.

But would you still go in for the cheap drinks on a night out as maybe your first pub of a night

The one down home seems to be always full of the local scumbags for some reason.

Was just intrested back in waterford a few days holidays saw that one opened up here, just wondering what people thought about it. Never set foot in the one in cork or any in the UK.

South Dublin Area

Been in a few of them. Awful spots. Spent about 18 euro and was locked. Has its uses I suppose but only ideal for lads looking to meet up for manchata.

The app is impressive though. Very handy for getting a pint.

They have their place. Cheap food and cheap drinks and the app is handy. They have a reasonable selection of beers too. Not the place to linger in all night though.

Great concept, but horrible places and the app is a hateful invention - it's sole existence have cut chances of staff getting any tips whatsoever to a brutal level.

Also happened to get food poisoning from hell after eating at one in London airport (didn't have much time to spare and all other places were full).

Will never be back to any of them

In the Blanch one once before CV19 and 3 out of 4 of us got food poisoning! Not been back since but friends were there recently and had similar experiences. Do NOT eat the food in them down here.

Enniskillen one, on the other hand, is quite good, weirdly.

"I know the owner is a it of a that pro brexit and his policy of not paying his workers due to been closed because of covid.

My assumption would be that his employees here in Ireland would have been covered by the Covid unemployment payment during the times pubs and restaurants had to close, no?

I used to frequent a southside Dublin Whetherspoons while in college for 2 years (just before Covid), probably every couple of weeks for a coffee, occasional breakfast, lunch or even dinner with my class mates.

The place was always clean, warm with a lovely open fire, the staff were always warm, friendly, welcoming and chatty. I could never fault the food, and if memory serves me right, I don't think my class mates ever complained either. Coffee for €1.80 at the time with a refill when you're a student as opposed to a fiver for a Starbucks...It was affordable and suitably priced. The clientele, due to the prices, were probably a lot of students during the day.

Is there an app now through which you have to order? I certainly wouldn't! If I'm out and about, I want to talk with people and not sit on the phone placing orders

In saying that, I wouldn't be a pub goer anyway and Whetherspoons probably wouldn't be the place I, or my friends, would suggest for a night in the pub... cheap drinks or not - but I wouldn't frequent a pub charging a tenner for a pint either!!!

Yeah back of it used look out across car park towards bus station and Iceland shop on left. Haven't been up since CV19 so can't tell you if still there or not, sorry. Did a decent trade so I imagine that it will be

If you actually read the response on tim martins quote on his workers during covid he actually didn’t say fuck off and go to work for Tesco. What mainstream media failed to add was that he said to his employees “I will invite you back when the time is right after this pandemic”. Also his Brexit opinions shouldn’t matter, he was protecting his business from a corrupt establishment that has been failing for decades. It’s proving it right now if you look at the opinion polls from other countries about the EU

Opinion polls about the EU FFS!!...

If you believe this shite, you're a moron. Its only every stupid Brits and Yanks that come out with this crap. Usually the peasants from both societies, spouting the word of the elite who've fucked them over!

Both states are in full denial, while telling everyone " Any day now the EU will collapse"

You'll pay €40 euro and get a meal. Witherspoon is pure crap. But there menus are really honest. You get exactly what they say, a piece of fish and a few chips...not a single thing else!

It has destroyed British cuisine, every pub in England trying to copy it. The result is that pub grub in the UK is just terrible now.

Grand for cheap drink, avoid otherwise.

Food was good and filling and the beers were decent, we couldn't complain.

Our local food pub near home is 18 euro for a main course and 5.50 for a pint.

In general pub grub in England doesn't compare to Irish pub grub

Having spent many years in the trade, I have to say I don't like them one bit. But they have found a market and exploited it to the maximum. The reason a lot of them don't sell Guinness is that diageo refused outright to give them a deal. All the other major breweries were and are tripping over themselves to get their products on their bars. When you have nearly 1000 pubs , your buying power is so much stronger.

I recently stayed in one in Dublin, whilst I didn't drink in it,the room itself was very clean, spacious and warm. Breakfast was very good as well. Plus its handy for Dublin Airport.

Jesus I remember going over to England for lads weekends in the late 2000s and early 2010s and Wetherspoons always had the 'Beer and Burger' for £5.

A Pint and a Burger (Beef or Chicken) and chips all for a fiver.

I used to go to a wetherspoons in Turnpike lane early 90's was great, no music, no gaming machines or TV, but they did have books you could read...and they had good beer on tap, where I first had my first IPA...

Pity they have lost their way a bit...but was in the one in Harrogate, fabulous building, and the beer and grub was a good standard ...and always packed to the rafters.
