Newry Down

Staying at my maternal grandparents' home was a joy because my own parents and his siblings had a very frosty relationship.

Their home was out in the countryside, away from noise and street lighting; it was a natural bucolic environment that had its own relaxed rhythm and they were reasonably happy times, until one afternoon when I was delivered back to my parents, with my pjs

My grandparents never did explain why I had been ejected, but my memories are of waking at dawn when the sun rose; birdsong; time out in the fields, tending to the animals, and a pleasant amicable place.

Family holidays, we were very lucky to spend quite a few abroad and these have left me with many happy childhood memories

Going to the beach on a sunny day or even better i use't enjoy the ring of kerry for a day out and having a packed picnic up there and getting chipper on the way home.

somewhere

Wasn't on a plane until I was in my 20's but every few years we'd go on the B & I boat from Dublin to Liverpool to visit my Granny

It was probably a horrible boat but I can still remember the thrill of the whole journey on a boat
