Quite apart from the horrific account , there are absolutely wonderful moments depicting the growing friendship between Liam and Ben Kingsley’s characters and very insightful discussions on what having power actually means

The problem with making a really excellent film, when all the elements are successfully orchestrated into a financially viable construct, is that some financiers and producers, because of a lack of real creativity, decide to flog the original concept to death.

Die Hard, the first one, is a perfect example of this lack of financial judgement.

David Lean's film Ryan's Daughter, set in County Kerry, has often been lambasted, but I really like it; the only problem was that the local council decided not to purchase the purpose-built village and therefore lost a good source of ongoing revenue from film tourists; amazing financial myopia!

A really superb Robert Redford film from the early 1970s, that is never broadcast is Three Days of the Condor, an oil-related spy film.

I had a lot of problems to get a copy of the DVD, which I managed to source in South Korea.

Max Von Sydow is the cold assassin and Faye Dunaway is Redford's naive love interest.

Although it looks a little dated in this internet era it was very sophisticated in its time, and comprises many layers: power, money, geo-politics, big business role of the print media, government, treachery,etc.

Definitely worth a look: several critical vignettes are available on YouTube.

If you are interested in the UK class system and how it can adversely impact impoverished female employees at the lowest stratum of society, as it existed 100 years ago, a really excellent film, is the 1950s Alistair Sim monochrome version of An Inspector Calls, with Olga Lindo as the matriarch of the wealthy female.

It is a masterclass on society, snobbery, business, patronising charity and what can happen to a young pregnant girl who falls through the welfare net, that didn't really exist in the 1910s!

The original play has made it into the silver screen in several outings, but the 50s Sim version is the most renowned amongst film buffs.

The Happiest Days of your Life is a 1950 monochrome comedy, that actually kicked off the series of Saint Trinian's films, although it is not usually directly connected with them.

Frankly, I find it to be hilarious when two schools are mistakenly billeted in the same building, and the principals, Alistair Sim and Margaret Rutherford are obliged to sort out the mess, before the govt realise their error.

Think you are talking about the original film from the 50s of 12 angry men,1 of my all time favourite films.

The post you quote is talking about some remake,never say it.

Why remake such a great film I don't know but I can see the story fitting a modern retelling of it very well.

Cliff Robertson's curt punchline to Redford in the last scene about the print media is very prescient; this was the era of the. Watergate scandal involving Tricky Dicky President Nixon!

Naturally, I think it is a vastly underrated film; I can never recall it ever having been broadcast.

I remember going to see it in a local cinema when it was first released.

I have also visited most of the locations on Google Maps including the train station in New Jersey, which has an exceptionally unusual name.

The scene where Redford disguised his location by connecting different wires in the telephone exchange was amusing.

Interestingly, Robert's character was a reader, a researcher who researches plots: there is a theory that Putin is using a 2006 book called The Third Empire as a template for his expansion into Crimea, Ukraine and inward into the three Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

Sweden is reinforcing the Aland Islands in the Baltic and has started conscription into its Armed forces.

Someone mentioned The Cable Guy earlier, to me that is such an underated movie that gets better the more you watch it.

An Andy Garcia movie called The Unsaid is another great movie but wouldn't watch that more than twice.
