Films that were over rated when you go back to them

somewhere

We all have films we remember watching years ago and remembering them as decent films

Have you ever looked at them again and realised they were crap

Watched 10 on Thursday night ....a sex comedy that was a massive commercial hit in the late 70's that introduced Bo Derek to the world

My god was it absolutely crap....

Have a few more saved on The Dodgy box ...now afraid to look at them

Have you ever gone back and changed your opinion

Salem's lot and Halloween were two that I thought were awful when I watched beck after a couple of decades.

Salem's lot put the heart crossways in me when it came out first

Yes, I'd say I was 13 or 14 at the time. I watched it again when I was 18 though, and in a bedsit in Dublin, all alone.. I didn't sleep for a week after it..

I watched it again when in my late 40s and wondered what the fuck was going on.

Fucking keyboard

Human Traffic. Summed up the late 90s and early 00s for me, but tried it again recently and it's fairly unwatchable.

Shawshank is over rated. Its a brilliant film but no way its deserving of its reputation.

It wasnt even the best film of 1994 never mind the 90s or of all time.

"Terminator is always a classic though "

A film that has gotten better with time, and one of the very few that has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes.

Up there as the best film ever made.

Pulp Fiction (I am not a big fan of Tarantino)

You could even argue that Forest Gump was better, a magnificent film.

I think Shawshank was a truly brilliant film cause it showed the way life can go but l would agree with you on Forestt Gump & The Lion King , 1994 really spoiled people for choice ..but l wouldnt say Pulp Fiction because of the story line but each to their own ..tbh l never even thought of it

James Cameron has done more for strong female leads than any director in history

I do agree its a brilliant film, and I always watch it when its on the telebox but I dont think its as good, memorable or has had a cultural impact that Pulp Fiction has had.

I can name 10 films from the 90s better than it.

Considering the development of the main female lead by the end of the film, it's hardly anti christ or fight club

Any Will Smith movie... JOKE!

I thought Ocean's Eleven was brilliant the first time I saw it but now it just looks like a load of smug Hollywood stars poncing around for 90 minutes...

In my personal opinion, Citizen Kane, touted as the greatest film ever made, is unwatchable; as is Casablanca.

As a child, the James Bond movies are pretty good viewing, but predictable for an adult audience.

Anything made before 1949 is unwatchable, especially the slapstick movies.

The top 1949 movie is the masterpiece with Alec Guinness, Kind Hearts and Coronets, starring Denis Price, Valerie Hobson, and Joan Greenwood at her very best! Arthur Lowe from Dad's Army appears at the very end as the reporter.

With the exception of the second Godfather, most sequels should not have been commissioned.

When I revisit some of the old VHS porn tapes that I bought, or borrowed from friends decades ago, they are tedious beyond words; utter garbage! Need I say more.

Love Shawshank but not the best Stephen King possibility. I know many were scared witless by the original It TV movie and I'm still waiting for a decent interpretation of The Dark Half, which I view as his most vicious story, along with Rose Madder which could be an amazing movie.

As above, Salem's Lot terrified me as a youngster but when watched again, meh. Good to know there's a remake in the works

Pet Sematary is the one he views as his most scary and I know quite a few people who were unnerved by both the book and original movie, though it didn't seem to work for me.

As for which I'd watch first, sorry but I love Pulp Fiction more than Shawshank, despite having almost every Stephen King book ever sold and loving the movie.

The Starsky and Hutch movie was bollix! Sorry for reminding ye

Gremlins 2 was crap on replaying too.

Remake of The Ladykillers but the original, along with many of the Ealing classics, I still have a fondness for. Whatever happened to all those old b&w movies on a Saturday morning?

I'll stop now and visit another thread

Ahh yes. A lot of the bond movies are utter shite. I loved Roger Moore as a kid but wow they are terrible

And then there are some films that have more depth and layers of complexity when one returns to them on a second or subsequent occasion, such as the first and second Godfather but not the third.
