Its the second most religious event of the year and yet its not as celebrated as Christmas

Is it just Eggs

What does it mean to you

Friday is not a public holiday but I'm taking the day off, so for me it's a long weekend.

Get Easter eggs for the "kids", otherwise it means absolutely nothing

It's not a weekend I would consider going anywhere as everywhere is overpriced and full of families

Doesn't really mean much to us. Be both working Friday and Dee is off Monday. Could take Monday off but extra cash is always a winner.

I'm off Friday to Monday, I use it as a weekend to get stuff done around the house that I've been putting off for a while. Possibly going to a football match Friday night and Monday afternoon.

Means absolutely nothing. Haven't had an Easter egg in 10 years and haven't bought one in even longer. Off all next week but that has nothing to do with Easter and that will probably be the first ever bank holiday I've had off.

It doesn't "mean" anything in the sense of it being a religious holiday but having grown up on the continent, it was nearly as big an event for us as children as Christmas would have been.

I have carried on that tradition with my children, either by having had family gatherings/egg hunts but also by attending other family members' gatherings and Easter egg hunts.

The Easter bunny and egg hunt was a big thing in my day with an unusually large family (where I come from anyway - in Ireland that's peanuts ).

My son can't wait for Sunday after the 2 year break with Covid and it just being immediate family. This weekend there'll probably be 30 of us from 3 different countries with oodles of chocolates and toys to search for, with "rewards" for the last 3 eggs/toys to be found in the most ridiculous places .

And that's what it's all about - family gathering and spreading joy (and chocolate ).

Actually, I'm pretty sure Easter is higher up the list than Christmas in terms of importance within Christianity.

Why is it not as big a party session? Maybe people enjoy celebrating a birth more than a gruesome death? There's a shitload of penance around the whole Easter thing that probably puts people off?

It means more to me politically than anything else if I'm honest.

It also reminds me of the glory days of the circuit of Ireland rally as it used to come around our way on either good Friday or the following day.

I usually work on the Friday, depending on the weather and the humour, and whether I'm busy or not.

"Anyone remember the Easter Parade in Dublin....just the Army from what I remember "

There is an Easter commemoration in every county in the country, every year, held by either the National Graves Association or various republican groups.

The government in Dublin abandoned theirs back in the late 60s/early 70s but then resurrected them a decade ago. A cynic might think that was an effort to reclaim some lost ground from SF and ensure that they didn't look like hypocrites when the hundredth anniversary rolled around.

Working Friday, off Monday. It’s a family occasion for me, like a mini christmas with some extended family in my parents house for dinner. I’m really looking forward to it after not being able to do it for the last 2 years.

Up until few years ago Easter used to mean extra mega stress in work with no extra benefits.

Now it means absolutely nothing.

Just another day in the calendar. If the date would be set - I would probably know what exact day of the year it is, but due to it changing all the time - I don't even know when is it until people start talking about it.

Missus

Never even heard of Easter egg hunts until about 7 or 8 years when an English friend was talking about them and she was surprised I had no idea what she was on about.

I read about the Easter bunny as a child and it fucked me up completely as I ended up thinking rabbit's eggs tasted better than hen's eggs.

Means nothing to be honest.

I’m working Friday and then off for 4 days. Heading to Dublin for the weekend and because it’s Easter prices for hotels have gone through the roof.

Could of got a week in Spain for what I paid for 2 nights up there

Hopefully it will have all been worth it by the end of it all

Newry Down

Easter Sunday, in a trad religious context has had no relevance for me for years, but, although not a political person, Easter Sunday does resonate with me because 1916 kicked off the most significant push to kick off the colonial shackles and establish an independent Ireland.

The forest parks in the north on ES are bunged to capacity when the weather is good, and at Tollymore near Newcastle there is a massive boiled egg event; I have have never seen it myself, just the aftermath

A great family day!
