Frankly, I think Will Smith was perfectly justified in slapping the Oscars host for the tasteless remark about Smith's wife's hair loss issue.

He didn't punch him, just a slap.

If the committee try to take the Oscar from him, there will be costly litigation; the US is a phenomenally litigious country!

Future hosts will need to be more circumspect in their remarks, allegedly!

I'm sure he wasn't going to be the only target of Rocks jokes that night. Its routine for hosts to have a go, Gervais did the same.

It's definitely not fake this incident could do serious damage to Will Smiths career. He was also almost a dead cert to win best actor so he wouldn't have planned anything that would taint and overshadow his victory.

Why don't the organisers realise the massive egos of these 'stars' don't turn up to be brought down to mere mortal levels. So don't employ guys like Gervais and Rock , because they will do just that. I was shocked at WS for a second , until I remembered that i don't actually know the guy. We think we do. But it's just on screen persona. Seems I just learnt that he slaps like a girl , and is a sly old git as well.

I wouldn't be an advocate of violence but my humble opinion, he was justified. Will Smith showed remarkable self restraint to have only bitch slapped the horrible little shit under the circumstances. There is such a thing as provocation, and Chris Rock clearly provoked him with his needless and tasteless remarks about the his wife's alopecia.

People have said about the restraint that Will Smith showed by only slapping Chris Rock. He got up off his seat after having laughed at the joke and walked across the stage before striking Rock. There was no restraint there it was pre-medicated he had time to take a deep breath and count backwards from ten.

Jada has made comments over the last couple of years about how it has been her choice to have her hair cut short and how she loves it. Her condition is not something that has only appeared in the last few weeks.

I think Will Smith completely over reacted especially as he was laughing at first .It was a joke albeit a not very funny one but that is the norm at these events over the last few years.If he had ignored it then it would have been forgotten about in a few minutes plus Jada isn't exactly a wallflower and she has been well able to voice her own opinion and stand up for herself from the few interviews I've seen of her.

Why anyone would think resorting to hitting someone over a comment like that is acceptable is beyond me.

I believe the reason they are talking about taking away the award is because a few years back they brought in a code of conduct which he breached. Either do nothing which means the code is worthless and allows others to breach it or stand behind their code and do something about it

Fun fact: Two years ago Chris Rock came out and revealed he suffers from NVLD (Non-verbal learning disorder). He is a comedian but he also struggles with social issues and the like as it is a form of autism.

So what you are saying is that you are okay with the assault of disabled people.

Yeah when I opened my eyes properly I just seen it above thanks. God this does make it worse for WILL I also see someone else say they think is is justified. I just don't think so and he's guilty as hell and is publicly apologising so there's right or wrong it was wrong. Of course what he said about his wife was upsetting but I still stand by it could definitely been handled legally in a proper manner. Of course all on camera aswell so there wouldn't have been no hunt for evidence.

I honestly couldn't give a fuck about what goes on between two highly paid actors who's everyday irrelevant job is to pretend that fake things are real.

However, Chris Rock's ticket sales have gone from sluggish to incredible overnight.

Will Smith's autobiography will be worth a fortune and he'll probably now get roles as the unlikeable bad guy in Hollywood films.

Next year's Oscars will be watched by multiples of the numbers that have watched it in recent years.

I still won't be one of them.

The bottom line is that a man went to work and got assaulted and he'll be reminded of it forever.

Every comedian is fair game now in every stand up show that they do in any venue...if they offend anyone

Hard to defend Smith's actions..

he boiled over due to the condition of his mental health which doesn't look good for him. It's out of character for him as well .

His speech might of highlighted his mental health even more. If he didn't act out and assault Rock...Rock was only doing his job full stop.

Smith spoke of what the industry takes from an individual, without the assault there would be a different narrative about him.

His action can not be justifed under someone was slagging his wife.

Apart from The Slap, it’s worth noting that Jada wasn’t having ‘affairs’ as so many reports in the media suggest. They have both talked about being in an open relationship which is hardly ever mentioned. Not that I’m saying that has anything to do with happened.

It's funny. I noticed here and on other sites such as Twitter and Facebook that a lot of the people claiming that the slap was faked or set up are the same who support the Russian invasion and are anti vax/covid doesn't exist. Bit mad

Actually the oh it's staged comments are on news stories on Facebook or Twitter. I wouldn't associate myself with idiots and thankfully my friends and family have a bit of cop on. As for the pro Russian thing the green arrow is your friend.

Smith shouldn't have been there in the first place. The oscars are a worldwide award.

If you think will smith was in the top 20 actors in America, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, France, Germany, etc etc then you're out of your mind.

The film was poor, and not very culturally relevant unless you follow sports based on the skin pigmentation of the players. It wasn't even factually acurate.

For years will smith has sold himself as a forward thinking family man, its good for business, but even a quick look into the family and you see the kid got emancipated, another says she is openly sexual with multiple partners as thats how she was raised. Will smith hits on every woman in every film he does, making it clear he can have an open relationship. His wife not only has an open relationship with him but they also cheat on each other.

meanwhile on facebook people post pictures of will smith with "meangingful" snippets written on them like "you have to make yourself happy"

Hes a 53 year old man with a 50 year old wife, walked up on stage slapped someone for a joke. Then goes on instagram "When youre at your highest the devil comes for you, I am growing and learning", and stuff like "I am here to grow" from his wife, who laughed at her husband slapping him.

We got a peek at who they really are though, will people buy it and keep going to his films.

The only thing will smith did on the night was remind us there is no such thing as white privilege, just privilege for those with money, which he has a lot of.
