A great thriller ..lead me onto more adult bboks

The fog ( James Herbert)

A fantasy horror that moved me away from just reading thrillers and frightened the crap out of me at night reading in my bed

- The Goonies- taught me about friendship and hope as a kid

- Sophie's World (not Sophie's Choice - although that was powerful too) introduced me to philosophy and got me thinking as a teen

- and as an adult I can't pick just one, sorry, too many great reads to help me through different times over the last 30 odd years

A) riddle of the sands - the first book I read for pleasure

B) as a teen I read the gunslinger by Stephen king, and got totally immersed in that world

C) as an adult, Shindlers List as a film deeply affected me, particularly the scene where Oskar sees the red coat in the pile and the penny drops.

It was an event every year to see his new film

Because of one of them... Jaws ....I won a major high court case that changed my life ...so thats the one with the biggest impact

The film, Witness released in 1985 had a profound effect on me, because of the sense of belonging and co-operation within the Amish community within Lancaster, Pennsylvania, that it portrays.

They eschew technology, value family life and work hard, principally at farming but also in many other SMEs: small and medium sized enterprises.

They have a sense of community that no longer exists in Ireland.

Harrison Ford is the detective, John Book, and Kelly McGillis is the young Amish widow whose son Eli Lapp is the witness to a drug-related murder in a railway station's toilet area, which is linked to police corruption.

The community barn-raising scene is a joy to behold!

a. Movie: Die Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (Zoo Station - The story of Christiane F) rated 16s.

I watched this unbeknownst to my parents aged 8 or 9... about a teen/pre-teen (despite the age rating) getting into heroin and prostitution, a very dark, moving and saddest story. A must watch for every young teen in my opinion. If that doesn't put you off the stuff, I don't know what will.

b. The series of books by Jean M Auel "The Clan of the Cave Bear".

The story of a homo sapiens child being raised by Neanderthals to include a huge amount of research into archaeology. I took archaeology as one of my college subjects for the length of time I stuck with uni.

c. My all time favourite movies are The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

The former is too complicated to explain why...the latter - I do believe there are people with extraordinary gifts and have been lucky enough to meet some with such a gift - unfortunately usually to their own detriment.

a. As a child I remember seeing THE FOX AND THE HOUND and how this cartoon didn't have a happy ending like all the others

b. Read THE SECRET DIARY OF ADRIAN MOLE AGED 13 AND 3/4 and was fascinated by it as I could relate to it been a teen in the 80's!

c. Loved THE PRECIOUS PRESENT as it's such a simple yet powerful book

As a child, the book Freckles was so joyful, heart wrenching and eventually endearingly triumphant.

As a young teen Salem's Lot movie vampire scared the absolute bejaysus out of me and caused a love of Stephen King books from then up to the present day.

As an adult, probably the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and Blade Runner 2049 are my favourite movies, though there's a few Stephen King based ones I'd throw into that too and you likely know them but, for those that think it's all horror, watch Stand By Me and Shawshank Redemption to understand his genius extends beyond horror. Oh! Then watch Misery

Children's Encyclopaedia Brittanica, which my cousins had, every time we visited their house, I as the only girl was left ploughing through these, gave me a fascination for facts lol.

I read The Exorcist aged about 11, it traumatised me for years

Love the escapism of LOTR although I was a young adult by the time I read them.

Recently Edith Eger's "The Choice" inspired me to believe that we can overcome trauma and emerge the stronger for it

I am going to keep it fabby . I d spend all day talking about travel books , books about friendships and meditation .

Have read many a self help books . Large sections were nonsense but phrases like ‘it’s about them not you’, ‘it will pass’, ‘preparing for your moment’ and ‘finding your purpose’ have helped enormously In making me more resilient.

Movie wise it’s always shame I come back to. You know the guy who can’t , for some reason , be monogamous , and for whom no matter what happens can cope with anything providing there has been some recent sex in his life ? Good to know there are others like that even if they’re fictional

I can't say any films ever had an impact on me. Books though are very different..

A) The house at Pooh corner was the first book I read on my own. Suddenly I discovered that I could escape to other places without actually going anywhere. It had an impact far beyond the meaning of the words on the pages.

B) Raids and Rallies by Ernie O'Malley. Mostly first hand accounts of attacks against RIC and Tans during the "revolutionary period". I was reading this in the late seventies and early eighties at a time when such accounts of our violent past were greatly frowned upon.

C) Ten Men Dead by Peter Beresford. The book was compiled mostly from secret communications smuggled out of Long Kesh during the prison protest and not written with publication in mind. It's quite an insight and its a gripping read, whether you're a republican or not. It taught me something about the importance of negotiations and compromise.

A. As a child I can remember being in second class and having our teacher read the first Harry Potter book to us, everyday for hour.

B. As a teen I watched the first Lord of the Rings movie, that made me want to read the books! That had a profound affect on me and made me fall in love with fantasy and world building.

C. As an adult the one book that kicked off a hungar for reading and wanting to delve into the world of books would have been The Iron King by Maurice Druon.

Along with those 3 I remember history class being my favourite subject in school. This in conjunction with reading turned me into a nerd of the highest caliber

The Day of the Jackal 1973

Fred Zinneman directed this supreme masterpiece of timing, planning, research and opportunism.

The Godfather 1972 and its sequel (part 2) and to a lesser extent (part 3)

epitomise the treachery that can take place within and between Mafia criminal groups over many decades.

The Odessa File 1974

Another Frederick Forsyth masterpiece that mainly deals with avenging the death of a journalist's father, who was a member of Hitler's Wehrmacht.

Carry on...Camping 1969

Cheap, tacky, saucy Donald McGill type seaside postcard nonsense that is now revered by some, but has no artistic merit whatsoever!

The Firm 1992

If a corrupt legal firm in Memphis which represents the Mafia, recruits an exceptionally bright and educated legal associate, they would be well-advised not to try to strongarm him through a honeytrap.

As a kid, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stephenson hooked me.

All the Tom Sharpe stuff in my teens gave me a great laugh.

And the homeland trilogy by Robert E Salvatore just blew me away and still does

Child: Jaws couldn't swim in deep water after that, Book famous five gave me a love of books.

Teen: close encounters of a third kind theirs something out there, Book There's something in the attic.

Adult: so many to list, book the hearts invisible Furies.

I can't talk enough about this book one of my all time favourite can't wait to read it again
