What's your fab crappy purchases that are still hidden away that you haven't thrown out....go on admit how much it cost and what they are

Catsuit from wish must reorder in a different size because off wish it's all chinese or Japanese, they are shrunk by about four times the usual clothes norms lol.

I have occasionally paid out money for items that I knew would turn out to be useless, risky and once potentially dangerous (but not by post) just to gain some invaluable experience of how scammers operate.

One scammer I knew over a prolonged period expressed a feigned interest in an activity that I know a lot about, which will remain unnamed for the present.

I bought her some basic equipment, in person and not by post, and delivered it to her home.

To cut a very long story short, by giving her all she needed I had called her bluff.

The total cost: a couple of hundred pounds, but the savings in the long term were almost incalculable; not only in financial terms but emotionally too.

The overall 'relationship' lasted, on and off, for fifteen years and the experience I gained was immense.

I knew I was paying for dud goods from the outset, but interacting with a reasonably skilled scammer was well worth the cost.

You normally could not buy an experience like that!

The only thing I can remember buying that was a bit ridiculous and not what I was expecting was figure 8 weightlifting straps.

Trying to get a little less dadbod and in the gym a lad recommended I buy myself a set for deadlifting. So online I went, found a set, bought them and what I got could be used to tow a car. The size of them. They were genuinely about 3 times too big. Not useable at all.

Lesson learned, I paid a few quid more and got a proper set.

Fab related just a few bits of lingerie that ended up being the wrong size or just really cheap tat nothing like the pics. Nothing crazy expensive tho.

In real life a car that looked great had a full service history etc and ended up being the bane of my life for the few months I had it.

Worst purchase online ever:

Mini Polaroid camera!

2 years ago there was a special offer on site - buy one get one free, so my plan was to buy it, sell one on and keep one.

Paid just under 60quid.

Still waiting for them to arrive

(I did look for receipts to get my money back, but by the time I copped on it was too late).

Every single bra I ever got from any site except for Ann Summers- never ever fit. There's lots of them laying about the house

Same with hold ups - none of them ever ever fit.

On the recommendation of a person whom I formerly trusted I purchased a car at full book price (the maximum value) but turned out to be a total mess; one problem after another.

I later discovered that the car had been bought at an auction in England, that it had been a delivery vehicle and had had its engine replaced, but all the ancillaries were from the old engine and were trashed.

The professional person who had recommended the vehicle, a Peugeot, had been given a finder's fee by the seller for having assisted the off-loading of this crap car into me.

When I found out how I had been scammed, in a joint enterprise, I broke off all contact irrevocably, and never paid the final repair bill!

Mercifully, the next car was a gem that lasted for over twenty years.

A lot of very valuable lessons were learned, but trust was shattered.

I love Ali Express ! Searching for tat is such fun lol. And all the better cos your purchases arrive months after ordering and therefore as a surprise. I ordered an Omega watch for around a fiver free postage. Arrived about four months later but looked and worked a dream

In a consumerist society where planned obsolescence is specifically engineered into all products, it is inevitable that we all, at some or many points, are caught out by a purchase that did not live up to our expectations.

Personally, I favour durability much more than aesthetic appeal, but I have been caught by some real duds, that promised much and delivered very little.

For example, some Sony portable (walkman) radios are defunct after having been dropped only once; and an extremely expensive Panasonic portable radio with arechargeable battery that could be supplemented by a bolt-on battery pack had the worst reception of even the cheapect Chinese products. It was rubbish.

Sometimes when I discover a really high quality product I will purchase a second, for storage, so that it can easily be replaced at the very end of its long life.

Some women have initial exceptional aesthetic appeal, but fail to live up to one's expectations.

There is nothing better than an experienced women, who knows what she wants, explicitly states her requirements and expects the to be expertly fulfilled, and vice versa!
