On a serious note, how are people finding it to cope with price of fuel rising? Speaking for my self I find it expensive to run a car along with maintenance, insurance, tax and nct but with fuel prices going up I honestly cant remember the last time I filled my car to the brim as it is too expensive lol am I the only one?

Filled up a few days ago and already gone up 4 cent a ltr since then

I'm lucky in that I get business milage expenses and the start of the year is the highest rate

I only put 20 euro of diesel every time now, the needle on the fuel gauge barely goes over the quarter tank mark, about 12 litres for 20 euro, don't even get 200km for that, disgrace really, I mostly do my own maintenance to save money on labour it's still expensive as vat on car parts is a lot, I bought 2 brake discs for my van 70 euro a piece couldn't believe it only a few years ago they were 40, if I could get around by cycling a bike I would but I think a 60km round trip to work is a bit much.

It takes about 25ltr to fill my tank, so I'm not struggling per say, but it has been quite surreal watching how it used to cost £28 to fill it from empty when I only got it to now.. last time I filled it last Thursday - £39.50.

Do feel for anyone who don't drive toy cars like me and it costs them absolute fortune

My genuine advice to anyone is to fill it as much as you can and keep it full - as its only the beginning of price hike.

Post-Covid 19 recovery demands, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and other subsidiary factors are coalescing to produce unprecedented fuel prices, that are likely to rise even further.

I have decided to cease using my own private transport and instead use public transport which, in my case, is accessible and completely free!

This will cut down my carbon footprint, as have other draconian actions that I have implemented over the last twenty years. For example, a super-insulated home: pipes, cisterns and attic have massively insulated; and the roof has been modified to take advantage of the Bernoulli effect, due to increasingly windy conditions that are evident in recent years.

When I was in Belfast last evening I noted that unleaded petrol is now over £1.50 per litre.

Unsurprising in the present circumstances!

Petrol in my local station is 1.80, diesel 1.72

The war in Ukraine is only getting started and the longer it goes on the more we will pay, its a perfect storm really post covid demand would drive the price up, opec reducing their production to make more profit, carbon taxes galore, there is another carbon tax hike in a few months expect to pay over 2 euro a litre by the summer fs.

I find it amazing how quickly it went up considering the oil that's been bought @ $100 has probably not even yet arrived at a refinery.

Also, oil was $125 a barrel 9 years ago and fuel was £1.25 per litre.

Profiteering?

Absolutely profiteering, OPEC are deliberately reducing production of oil, a small reserve of oil with a high demand will equate to high prices meaning more profit for them, its not like a few years back OPEC were producing so much oil they could barely sell it, there was a glut of oil on the market so prices went down, they won't make that mistake again

Green diesel is around a euro a litre now, washing it would probably take 10 cent a litre from their profit, they still leaves 60 cent a litre profit, anybody good at maths 60 cent multiplied by 25,000 litres your standard fuel tanker lorry will calculate their profit

Shoot me now - but it's all part of the Great Reset.

A pandemic, food and fuel shortages, massive price hikes, inflation, war, cyber attacks, possibly another virus - all a deterrent from what's actually happening.

The move to the social credit system by next crashing the financial systems, implementing digital currency, cash will be gone, you'll be easier to "control" in your spending, in your movements, in how you're taxed etc...

Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum: "You will own nothing and you will be happy" aka Agenda 2030 or the fourth industrial revolution. All painted beautifully and picturesque in their smart cities of the future where Joe Bloggs and Jane Doe are happy to work 24/7 to make the wealthiest of the wealthy even wealthier while their freedom to make choices on their movements and spending will be a thing of the past. Democracy is dead.

But don't say we, the famous conspiracy theorists, didn't warn you

Conspiracy theorists and people who support the notion of The Great Reset are examples of the types of nutjobs who propone bizarre views of the world such as the flat earth theory unidentified flying objects, new world order, etc.

As the world becomes more interconnected and complex and difficult for some to understand their bizarre cognitive processes become more prominent; in mental health parlance this is known as Schizotypism.

This is characterised by bizarre and unusual ideas, including religiosity but it has to be idiosyncratic and does not include the types if common religious beliefs of the disordered person's culture.

Proponents of theories, such as The Great Reset, will, you will find, also advocate other unusual ideas about how the Earth and societies function.

Regrettably, the enormous positive benefits of the WWW are diminished by such discredited theorists.

Their cognitive processes do not facilitate reality.

Nope they expanded into other areas I. E. Ukraine and inflation and cost to feed into their horseshit conspiracy. Everything has to do with the great reset or the cabal or qanon. They're so removed from the reality that everything they've been banging on about for over two years didn't happen, they cling to anything with the slightest shred of evidence (usually completely wrong) to prove their bloody stupid thoery. Rabbit hole.

It's a process obviously and takes time. We're only at the beginning of that process. Agenda 2030, another few years to go .

Have you actually ever bothered researching the World Economic Forum, the members, the plan, the background of these people, some of the speeches, the infiltration of the Davos clique in all world governments and the powers they have over decisions, decisions on policy making, decisions on putting laws in place etc.

It's right there in front of your eyes, just clad a little more prettily, all in the eyes of social conscience, social responsibility and duties but at the loss of what you've known to be called democracy and the "freedom to move freely, speak freely, protest peacefully and work" pre Covid.

And things that were predicted did happen. And more as we speak.

But I realize it's a terrifying prospect so best put your head back in the sand and deny anything is happening that isn't quite kosher

I suspect that by the end if this year fuel prices for road vehicles will be £2 sterling per litre.

The price of piped gas for central heating will more than double; if Russia decides to turn off the tap for natural gas, the sky is the limit for shipped LNG (liquified natural gas) from areas unaffected by war.

Frankly, from a security of supply perspective I always thought that relying on natural gas from the former Soviet Union, CIS, Commonwealth of Independent States, was astrategic miscalculation.

The government doesn't care about the price of petrol and diesel since the prices have risen dramatically, so has the amount of tax they take. The time is ripe for people to stand up to these Green party idiots and refuse to pay the exorbitant motor tax, as most Euro zone countries such as France and Germany have only a nominal registration charges..

2022 - Tony Blair Institute sets out plan to halt Europe's dependency on Russian gas.. fuckin rich from the guy thar invented the term "Energy Security" after 9/11 and insisted the UK dealt with our addiction to fossil fuels in 2006...

2006 - Tony Blair has warned that security of energy supply will become almost as crucial an issue for this country as defence.

The Prime Minister (Tony Blair) was speaking as he marked the official opening of Langeled gas pipeline from Norway, which will provide about 20 per cent of the UK's gas needs for the next 30 years.

He needs to crawl back under his rock if he thinks he has something to say about energy supply today. Himself and subsequent later governments did nothing other than shut down coal fired power and switch to gas, claiming it was cleaner.

Before anyone says, I voted for him as all the others did that fell fir his BS.

As for mains gas, I have ordered 4x propane cylinders as 1) it is cheaper to use LPG, and 2) if gas gets shut off as long as I can find a cylinder, the boiler works..

Once I've converted the boiler to LPG, grid is not going back on mains. They can shove the Standing Charges where the sun isn't shining.

If you have hot water tank, go for the log burner. 1x bag logs are £45-£65 and efficient burner should deliver 5-6kw/kg.

You could still use burner to preheat water then top off with boiler.

Solar Thermal is a good.option as is PV with a 'cheap' Heat Pump to use it.

I’ll be looking into PV solar now and with the little driving I do outside of work I’ll be thinking of getting an electric car in the future.

As for the van there’s little I can do at the minute, spent about €160 on diesel last week and it seems to have gotten thirstier

1.10 of every litre of petrol and diesel is tax, 50 cent should be knocked off that at least

On heating your home I bought a Chinese diesel heater and ran it on kerosene, have used it many time in my place by venting the exhaust out the patio door through a brick, door is then closed over on a piece of 4x2,cheapest way to heat a room, 3 hours of full heat only uses 1.5 litres kerosene..

Kilkenny, but Dublin is more fun

Unfortunately it's only going to start getting worse, and not just for petrol and diesel.

Wheat is also going to be in short supply this year, as Ukraine is the third largest exporter of grain, behind Russia and the USA, and our own agriculture may suffer as Russia announced a few months back it was going to pause the export of nitrates which are an essential material within our fertilisers and that may cause huge reductions in our harvests next year too.

And not to turn this into a purely russian thing. There's a whole load or higher ups who are profiting like crazy with the struggles of normal day to day people.

Fuel prices were crazy before the war started, sure that’s why the farmers and truckers were protesting years and months ago but the public were quick to blame them for holding them up on their commute , they knew what was coming but media were quick to blame them , we are getting fleeced with extra taxes compared to our European neighbors, the Russia invasion is only an excuse to blame , it’s about time the Irish government removed some of the excise duty that is crippling the public now

What baffles me most of all is the attitude of some people towards fuel prices. They actually think that its a good thing that prices go this way in order to deter from using cars and oil and gas for heating. Do they not realise that u need a viable alternative to those beforehand. 50 grand electric cars and 30 grand home retro fits unfortunately are out of most peoples reach.

My home heating oil ran out today sadly. Just looked it up now

The cost of 300 litres of Kerosene is €493.73 - this was the cost for 500 litres last year.

The cost of 500 litres of Kerosene is now €788.83.

Fuel here in circle k is now 199.9 for diesel and 209.99 for that fancy diesel. Petrol is about the same.

These prices are only going to rise for the next while. Public transport isn't an option for me. It won't cover my shift times.

I'll get by but definitely having to make plenty of adjustments.

The price of oil is reaching level that it was back in 2008 and avg price was 1.03 per litre so why would the price now be reaching €2 per litre and above .... simply large taxes put on it over last decade plus ... so government has option to cut taxes quite a bit to help country for short time.

No it applies from tonight on but what I'm saying is that a lot of petrol station have hiked the price of petrol/diesel last night in accordance to the expected excise duty cut, so when the cut comes in we're back to the same price as it was a day ago. Basically pocketing the cut themselves rather than passing it on to the customer. It's absolutely scandalous!
