It's horses for courses around here. There's not much you can do but use your filters to limit who mails you.

"Just wondering does all women get insulting messages on fab and what do you do apart from block and report."

Block and report, though tbh it doesn't really do a lot as the person can just create a new profile and do the same thing.

If you're feeling up to it, give as good as you can back, then block and report.

Block and report, set filters tight about as much as you can do.

I wouldn’t even bother, people who send abusive messages crave attention, of any kind, I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction, block, report and perhaps feel a little sorry for them that their lives are just that sad…..

Maybe wish them well and hope they get the help they so obviously need….

Dont engage at all.

if a message makes me feel bad in any way i block and delete.

I rarely bother reporting unless its seriously sinister, as others have said, people that way inclined are just here to be lousy and probably have multiple accounts anyway.

If they get that bothersome to deal with just block anyone from being able to message you and message people who you'd be interested in.

Depends on my mood and the type of abuse I suppose. If it's abuse about my looks or whatever I can take it. But I've had people try and insult my mental health and my relationships, and that would make me see red and fire back.

Believe me, I understand - mood can play a huge role in a reaction. I have to take a number of deep breaths sometimes

I've thankfully never had abusive messages. If there's ever a whiff of a nasty attitude I advise them of their wrong doing then send them to the block party.

I don't usually get too controversial on the forum because I'm here for the light-hearted aspect but...

I have only very rarely received abusive messages. It knocked me for 6 the first couple of times as a newbie on a single ladie's profile.

I got over it, blocked and moved on.

I don't condone abusive messages. Abuse in any way, shape or form is never ok!

I was invited to a couple of chat groups as a newbie. I left those fairly quickly.

I was shocked with some of the stuff that was shared in those groups and how some of the ladies responded to either abusive messages or those which I would deem for the delete button - not only with returned abuse but with ridicule, some really nasty stuff!

Responding to these kinds of messages with anything other than a polite "not interested" or "delete and block" sets a tone for the whole site.

It is other ladies then who are dealing with possibly even more riled egos, for a vicious circle to continually perpetuate itself!

Hence I would suggest to anyone and everyone, in particular the ladies on this site, to do what a lot of our mammies did with us when we were growing up - IGNORE bad behaviour, in other words, DON'T respond in any way, shape or form to cause further grief and aggrivation. Delete the message, block the sender and if necessary report the sender.

Because frankly you are a big part of the problem (and I still don't condone abusive messages - that doesn't mean I have to condone the reaction it evokes in some either!).

Simples

Most of the time when I get a nasty message you can tell its going to be horrible from the few words you can see at the preview, so what I do is delete with out opening,

I like to think it drives them mad that I have not read their missive

We deleted without reading and that seems to rile them more which leads to more ranting, and more deleting. Then we blocked.

We take it with a punch of salt, but do appreciate that not everyone can, such is the dark side of internet trolling. We recommend not opening it, just delete and block, you'll forget about it soon after, but if you read it then those horrible words will linger on your mind alot longer.

Yea, unfortunately there are alot of gobshites out there. Usually anyone new seems to get bombarded by them.

As others have said, you might suss out the tone of the message by the first few words, so delete if you want and block.

Sometimes acknowledging them on status updates or replying to them gives them what they want !

"Name and shame then block"

That's a fantastic idea.

So instead of an abusive message, trolls would just lie and name and shame you in forums for all sorts of things that you didn't do.

I'm well aware of that...I just thought I'd give my two cents worth for a change with a bit more of a controversial opinion. It's not only the initial offenders who should have to answer for their behaviour...the respondents have just as much responsibility in their behaviour... you can choose to play the role of the abused and/or victim. You can choose to rise above it...

Just block and move on, i wouldnt even report , waste of time , its very prevalent , lotta guys cant handle rejection or freedom of choice it seems , i wouldnt even engage with them , i know from female friends here its pretty full on , they all just block, move on and forget , one was naming the abuser in status but got a ban for it,

Block and move on.

The only time I’ve ever reported was if it was threatening violence.

That endeavour was utterly pointless as his profile is still up and running.

Block and report, though tbh it doesn't really do a lot as the person can just create a new profile and do the same thing.

Really !? - are you not then sending abusive messages yourself, and just as likely to be reported ?

As I said further up the thread, I did that when someone attacked either my mental health or my relationships, which I feel is really below the belt. They could of course have then felt free to block and report me, but they're not exactly innocents in the whole thing.
