"Why the age restrictions? Surely they do a physical test, if thats why. I wanted to go all GI Jo and join the military for the bootcamp and to fire guns, though I'd be like Mrs Bean with a gun Thankfully I'm too old so everyone is safe " Its do with the pension age which is daft. Should up the age limit to join, have some life experience and not be a little pup

"They want the older members to stay on now but won't recruit over 34's but times are changing, so hopefully it will change all in good time in regards the age issues. Personally i think it should go by ability rather than age. " I say the same about fab

"Not to be dismissing the Gaurds… but are 90% of Gaurds college drop outs who took the job as a safe secure job. You never hear of anyone wanting to be a Gaurd, they drop out or fail a college course and get into that way as a last straw. Just my opinion, no offence intended " Damn me and my educational success!!

"I applied once, i lied about my age, i was a teenshie bit underage, but filled out all the forms in the station. When the Sergeant found out, i had to go to the station and apologise, and got the most memorable bollickin. " Did you think the gaurds wouldn't ask to eventually see your birth cert or passport or something to prove your identity?

"The age thing should be done away with, once you can pass the medical and fitness test should be ok, life experience counts for a lot in that job, I see there was challenges to the age thing a while back and they won their case, but the review of the age thing is taking it’s time " I agree. Some guards look like they couldn't catch a cold, never mind a criminal

Same unsubstantiated claim as the “three lads” you know. If you had anyway decent degree why would you go to the Gardai for lower money and poor shift patterns. You’re full of it

It shows a shocking bias towards them as well as a total lack of understanding of what Gardai actually do in their day to day policing. To say it’s a safe job is beyond ridiculous, the numbers of serious assaults they suffer proves that. Shift work is classified as a carcinogen all on it’s own. If I was a Garda, I would be seriously insulted by your comment. Maybe you should go talk to a Garda with an open mind and delve into what they do, then come back and see what your comment reads like.

"Interesting how Gardaí are there to enforce laws but if you asked a Garda to quote the relevant law they would look at you as if you have 2 heads,They don't know the law but yet they enforce the law how does that work, they operate on feelings and suspicions when there is no hard proof a crime has been committed, they will also trample upon peoples rights as if God himself has bestowed them with special powers.. " In fairness the Gardais suspicions are normal correct. If you’re dealing with dodgy people you’ll soon know their mannerisms

Junior police are briefed carefully before charges are preferred on suspect.
