In your opinion what's better? A wink or a mail? Can understand people winking and we have been guilty of sending them but we are always of the opinion a mail is better. Saying that if a hot profile wink we will usually mail them or wink back.

I've missed winks from people I'd probably reply to because I just dont notice them.

I've also ignored ones I'd probably reply to if they had taken the effort to actually mail me.

So I'd always prefer a mail. And if a profile caught my eye od mail rather than wink

Usually a mail - I mean, at least you might know what the sender wants from that. A wink can mean anything from 'nice profile' to 'message me back' or can simply by someone trying to catch your eye.

The only way I know to respond to a wink is with a wink…..usually that’s the end of the interaction

I rarely if ever use any part of the site other than the forums so that's the only screen that's open. I can go for days if not longer without looking at my home screen so I wouldn't notice a wink.

In saying that, winks have worked out well in the past

Regardless of whether it's a wink or a message though, both are pointless if the person sending them has no intention of responding beyond your initial reply.

The vast majority of winks and quite a few messages that I've received and responded to have never led to any further interaction with that person so I have to assume they are either expecting an entirely different response or are just nudging for a fab on their latest pic.

As someone that is pretty rubbish at making first contact. I tend to use winks and fab pics to show interest. It's not ideal but it's a start.

Yep, pretty much this. Always prefer a message and am the kind to answer them all regardless. And we, or I

, usually would initiate contact by message rather than a wink.

I just think that a well thought out message is worth so much more than a wink - not that it is necessarily a more genuine display of interest but a well written message just shows more effort.

I send a wink if I'm uncertain if I'm what they're looking for. I always read the bio, so sometimes it's unclear

So, I send a wink in order to not burden them with messages. If I do get one back however I'll message then then.

I find winks confusing, is it an icebreaker? An invitation to enter into a conversation? Wink back if you’re interested? Or a general “you have a nice profile” but not necessarily what I’m looking for or I appreciate that perhaps I’m not what you’re looking for?

I like messages and winks and will generally respond if interested, but if a profile I like winks at me and I either wink back or message then nada, I’m confused……

I think it'll have more clout, definitely!

To be fair, I actually think that a woman making first contact by message with a man is a compliment for the man.

I don't mean that in a condescending way either just because the women outnumber the men, that the men should be grateful for the attention. But more so in the sense that historically speaking, it seems to always be the man who has to make the first move, be that in the real world or on a platform like this.

The notion that a woman makes first contact, or responds to a message "too quick" (certainly how I was raised) makes her "easy" is so outdated in my opinion. Not sure if that is the case for anyone on here now but I do believe that certain societal norms and values we grew up with are difficult to shake.

And for the record, my other half - I contacted him first by private message because of a forum post of his

I prefer mail but sure I've made that impossible for the majority so winks it is.

If I see someone that interests me I'd send a wink. I'm not a person that lots of people will like, so I won't put myself in a persons inbox without encouragement.

If its reciprocated then I'd send a message.
