Christmas charity?

Anyone have a favourite charity they contribute to at Christmas?

I have a jar in my bedroom and for years, I throw coins into it and by year end, fill it. I then donate it to the local Simon Community. Regardless of the reason, it is so heartbreaking to see people struggle at any time of year but especially Christmas.

I have monthly direct debit arrangements with my chosen charities.

I posted 4 carepacks to 4 residents in nursing homes today. It's an initiative that was started last year check them out on the face book , it's such a lovely idea

Me too - but doesn’t feel like xmas for me unless I do a little extra.

Not self promoting here - just wondering if others do the same!!

That’s a lovely idea - especially given the horrendous time they’ve had during pandemic.

I don't, quite simply because Christmas is not a good time for me and it would add to my stress levels and become something else I hadn't got round to, kudos to you and those who do though

Charity begins at home and you have to look after yourself first. Sometimes even just been nice to someone or sending a wee message can be all a person needs.

I remember years ago working at a panto with few people and one if the women was saying money was tight and she couldn't get her usual order of briquettes that week. I pooped to the shop nestle her and paid for 2 bales, it wasn't much as money was tight fir me too. Only told her a year or two ago and she just hugged me.

Noone should feel they have to donate large amounts its the thought that matters x

Totally agree - it’s not about the size or amount - it’s about kindness, however that is expressed.

Work is partnered with jigsaw. We regularly hold little fund raisers for them from raffles to breakfast morning. Always throw a few bob in for that. Also spent a considerable amount of the year collecting toys that were going elsewhere to be resold for less fortunate families at Christmas. 12 pallets of them in total this year being given out by family resource Centre, tallaght Gardaí and battered womens shelter to name a few. Jigsaw also got a couple of pallets for their centres.
