"The Mournes are stunning. I'm just beginning to get to see them but hopefully next year will get out there more and get fitter. " I would thoroughly recommend a walk within Tollymore Forest up to the Drinns; fabulous view of the Mournes up to Commedagh and Donard, which can be approached with Tollymore. And on a good day, a beautiful view over to the Isle of Man. Some lovely quiet spots up at The Drinns for picnics, taking in the views and contemplation. The tracks with Tollymore are tough and trainers would not be recommended; boots with two pairs of thin socks protect ankles and prevent blisters. It is possible to walk with Tollymore all day and not walk the same path twice in the same direction. Maps are available on the net; google maps or Bing enables route planning in advance. Parking within Tollymore is very safe unlike parking places around Mournes which can be very risky for damage to vehicles, thefts, etc. ![]()

"Is it worth paying for the pro version of alltrails? Was thinking of doing benbaun, might be handy I suppose if you want to download the route. " It depends if you have signal or not on that mountain.. I've the free version and I've been caught out a few times.. If you lose signal you lose GPS so it can be difficult to navigate if the trail is not well defined just be mindful of that.. Its personal choice good luck ![]()

"Is it worth paying for the pro version of alltrails? Was thinking of doing benbaun, might be handy I suppose if you want to download the route. " Yes. I use the paid version. It allows you download the map so you're not relying on phone signal all the time. It also gives you "off route alerts" when you wander off the trail. Some of the trails they have listed aren't particularly visible so it's very useful.

"The Lough Ouler loop in Wicklow, it’s a heart shaped lake ![]() Tonelegee... Stunningly beautiful if you get the visibility. Its very wet at this time of the year though and crossing the river at the start and end can be tricky after rain. I arrived back down a couple of months ago on a really wet day only to discover that the river had risen in the time I was walking. I had to head off upstream to get across. Waterproof boots are the bare minimum you need for it but it's beautiful when you get above the lake.

"Coumshingaun Lough Loop is a favourite of ours. Views are spectacular. Not a family friendly route though, tough in places. One thing we've noticed aloy in recent months is discarded masks along most trails we've been on. Taking gloves and bag next time to pick them up. " On my list for next few weeks. Did Galtymore last thursday to clear the head, enjoyed it
