Ok so since the radio is awash with Xmas tunes let's hear you favourite songs and the ones that make you switch off straight away

Best has to be Fairytale of New York

Worst is ... Fairytale of New York sung by Ronan Keating.

Oh my God I'd forgotten about Ronan's version, surely it's considered a war crime?

I love Pipes of Peace by Paul McCartney, can't stand Don't Let The Bells End by The Darkness

There are only about 7 I can listen to

Fairytale

Spaceman came travelling

December will be magic again by Kate Bush

Stay another day

2000 miles

Stop the cavalry

I believe in Father Christmas

Adore walking in the air by the Maccabees

Otherwise a load of nonsense . The boss’ version of Santa clause is coming to town is a 0 out of 10. Awful

belfast

The Pogues, the Darkness, The Pretenders and John Lennon's would top my list. But I really dislike Paul McCartney's one, one of the worst things he ever wrote (I'd even listen to Mull of Kintyre over that).

Is power of love a Christmas song ? If you exclude the video ?

The line I protect you from the hooded claw might possibly contain the best lyrics of any song ever

Bit of a different one here...

'Once upon a Christmas song' by Peter Kay / Geraldine McQueen is both hilarious and uplifting!

"Oh my God I'd forgotten about Ronan's version, surely it's considered a war crime?

Pipes of Peace is a good choice, people tend to forget it's a Christmas song cos it's not mention directly in the lyrics. Great video too, with McCartney playing the British and German soldiers in WW1

Wonderful Christmastime gets a lot of hate but I like it a lot. It's basically synth pop, like the Human League would do, but still sounds very festive. An unusual choice

The Pogues, Mariah, Slade are all objectively great songs that have been rendered unbearable due to overplay. I have to switch them off when they come on for the sake of my sanity

Others I still like:

Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC

Stop the Cavalry by Jonah Luwie

Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses

It’s incredible isn’t it - still brings a lump to my throat and can feel hairs stand on back of my neck and send tingles down my spine when there is great sound & the video is playing …
