not really surprising to be honest. i'm sure its inclusive of all age demographics in the statistic. some in their 50's still split a ball on the weekend. not my thing but ya know whatever. same from late teens up. back when i was very active here ..line chasing was rampant.

Not sure how people do that so much, and at older ages. Horrible memories of lying in bed at 5am staring at the ceiling wondering if I was gonna have a heart attack. No thx.

I felt the same about it 15 years ago, was so common it was like the whole country was doing it. Grew out of it in my early 20’s but the majority of my mates still do it every weekend and some every day, sad.

This is something I never experienced growing up. None of my family or friends were into it. Because of everything else going on up here at the time it wasn't readily available so it was all completely alien to me.

In the last couple of years though a family member has been through hell because of the out of control habits of 2 people she was close to.

They both came close to destroying her life completely.

For that reason alone I have no time for anyone who thinks it was ever an ok hobby or experiment and don't have any sympathy for anyone directly involved.

I have zero sympathy for those who do it on a night out etc. No matter how little you’re doing, you’re supporting organised crime.

It’s shocking how many reference it in their status here…it’s an auto block for me when I see it.

I'll disagree with you to a certain extent. While that may be true in some cases we are in an age where addiction and mental health issues are easily and often thrown up as a smoke screen or as a way of excusing behaviour. It may not always be black and white but people know how to play a different game.

Part of my point. Some fall into drugs as a coping mechanism. Other fall into drugs because their scum. I'm only pointing this out as you said behind every addict is an untreated trauma. This is sadly not the case. I detest drugs. I've had friends die from it and be murdered over them. One of them was only 19. His daughter not even one when it happened.

Somewhere in Co. Down

I've never used it and never want to I was unfortunately with someone who did a lot more regularly than I knew about. He knew I didn't like him using it and he changed from the nice decent guy I met and got involved with to a complete and utter brute with no conscious at all. And as for sex being great on it I disagree as someone who was expected to have sex with someone who had taken it and he didn't know the meaning of no either when he was on it. The next day he'd claim it was "just a bit of rough sex" despite the injuries he did to me. It's why the relationship broke up and the only regret I have is being fooled for so long by a waste of space and staying as long as I did allowing him to hurt me physically.

So no I hate the stuff and want nothing to do with anyone who uses it or any other drugs. And anyone who uses it gets zero pity from me either .Once was enough to be fooled by someone.

I have yet to meet anyone involved in drugs who got involved due to trauma. They all did it because their friends did and they didn't want to be seen as weak.

Growing up every one of my friends drank to excess. I never touched it and was told I wasn't a real man until I'd had a drink.

All these years later they have been through numerous broken relationships, rehab and for a couple of them major operations as a direct result.

Peer pressure has a lot to answer for but I still have no sympathy for anyone condoning the use of drugs.

The scary thing these days is that younger generation are getting into at an early age.

When i was in my 20s it was all about pills and acid, was something you took when in your late 20s when you had money from working.

Nowadays people in their late teens are taking completely unheard of when i was that age.

No wonder there's a epidemic out there.

Plenty of people drink and take drugs recreationally because they think it's fun. Doesnt have to be trauma, neither does it have to be peer pressure

Totally agree, most people i know who take it, do it because they like it and their friends also take it. Its got nothing to do with trauma or peer pressure.

Trauma is not something you talk about openly I know for a fact that nearly every homeless addict suffered abuse as a children whether it be physical or sexual abuse. Of course there is peer pressure but this plays a minimal role in becoming an addict..

Exactly and going back to my earlier point about 2 people deliberately trying to destroy a family member's life, both of those take them because they enjoy them. Neither suffered any trauma and none of their family or friends take drugs at all so they couldn't use either excuse.Their enjoyment however superseded everything else and their arrogance in the face of repeated requests to stop resulted in serious consequences.

Hence why I've no time for anyone attempting to put a positive spin on it.

I used to work on doors in my younger days. And you could see the almost instant change when it became popular.

People thinking they could take on the whole world and won’t take no for an answer.

Every second pipsqueak that comes to the door wants to fight you.

When you turn the trouble makers away and kick out the people doing drugs in the toilets then the owners complain that they are down money at the bar.

So I gave it up, and low and behold the owner was glassed the next weekend.

I would never do that job again these days.

Yeah it's funny how the different drugs change the atmosphere. Football violence in the terraces was massively reduced once e's exploded on the scene. Unfortunately the recent increase in white seems to only increase aggression and trouble.

Tried most things in my 20s and come 30 I knocked all that on the head because I'd been there and done that. Obviously some people can't kick it and it goes from a recreational thing into daily consumption. But to say all roads lead to prison, death or homelessness if you use is not true.
