Taxi drivers not courteous to women

Twice a week we get Taxis, at the end of our journey. My wife always says good night& thank you to every driver. I am sick and tired of certain drivers. Who don’t have the courtesy to say good night to a woman. Do I tip after after this. No. Tonight I said to the driver, 3 times. My wife said good night. He never even said, sorry, I didn’t hear her, nothing but ignorance. So any drivers, reading this. Courtesy goes a long way, and tips help.

You know sometimes the customer is not always right

You paid them to get you home safe

If you started complaining to me about not saying something to your wife I'd presume you were a mouthy bloke that wanted a fight over something stupid and just want you out of my space

I was very courteous to show him the way home like all drivers who don’t know whee we live, as he was outside his area. Approx 5 minute journey. So don’t judge me on looking to mouth off. I was reared with manners. I respect others. All directions was with please,

Couple v im with you taxi drivers are very rude i get a taxi home from work at least 3 times a week most of them dont even speak to you and my biggest bug bearer is they wont wear masks i never tip them i think they charge enough as it is as everyone says manners cost nothing after all they wouldnt have a jo if we didnt use them

It works both ways though. One of my neighbours was a taxi driver for years and I worked with 5 others who used to drive taxis.

One of them gave up due to the cost of a taxi plate and one because of the hours. The rest packed it in because of the abuse they got from passengers.

The are plenty of people on here who work long shifts and unsocial hours. Are they all smiles and full of chat during and after their shift? I doubt it based on their forum posts.

The drivers who you don't tip probably remember you and are a bit surly because you never tip. Maybe they didn't hear you one day ages ago, you didn't tip, and now you're "that one who never tips" so the circle of rudeness and non-tipping continues. It's not right but that might explain it.

I would nearly always force a chat and try and have a laugh with them and it's rare enough that they are rude. It's a life I wouldn't want myself and they are in a low income working antisocial hours so would go out of my way to engage respectfully from start to finish.

A taxi driver not saying goodnight to me wouldn't bother me in the slightest and I think nit picking and having a go at someone over it is a bit petty if I'm honest.

As long as they get me home safe and sound I don't care about if they don't say goodbye or aren't chatty .There's only so much are ye busy tonight, what time are you on until someone can take.And considering some of the crap they have to put up with driving people home sometimes as well I'm not surprised they don't want to make chit chat all the time.

The title of your thread OP suggests its 'women only',but eitherway I think you may have been unlucky with some particular drivers.From my own experiences,I would initiate a conversation when I sit in a taxi and wait to see if a driver will engage.If not,I stay quiet and just say "thanks" when paying him/her.I tend to give some of them the benefit of the doubt,if it's a long day or maybe they had an abusive customer just before you.So maybe it's not the case for all drivers,but certainly not towards women....I don't agree with your thread title.

Some taxi drivers are pure ignoramus’s

Think they are a step above everyone else

They don’t deserve a tip because you pay them for the journey and they are there to provide the service

As a professional driver I don’t expect or get tips as part of my job

They always complain about not getting this out that and cause traffic disruption during protests

They whinged during the lockdown about no income but yet they were claiming PUP and some out working as well

They get government grants for cars

They’re there to provide a service to the people as a form of public transport and do that in a respectful manner to the customers

i do have to ask..what if someone kept saying goodnight to you wife and she did not feel like saying it. and they got annoyed? secondly. if there are lots of drivers doing it. maybe the issue is not the drivers. just saying

Manners don't cost a thing but taxi/bus drivers do recieve alot of abuse on a daily basis so I wouldn't take ot to heart if they didn't say bye

My phone slipped out of my pocket few weeks ago in taxi back in Dublin. I am not living Dublin and the taxi driver took time out to post the phone to me with registered post. Just a good person. Ye managed to get a taxi and get home safe. Taxi provided the service, ye paid for service, your wife shouldn't expect a goodbye same as single guys shouldn't expect a reply (That actually rhymed)

My dad was a taxi driver at home for nearly 30 years. Long hours, dickhead customers, d*unks and constant chance of being robbed or assaulted (was assaulted only twice thankfully.. Well i say assaulted was more attempts )

Would put anyone in bad form. Maybe you just got a driver in a bad mood. Happens.

As I said courtesy goes a long way, it’s costs nothing to be nice. I’m in the service industry. It’s only a chosen few that can’t be nice. Be it a bad day or no respect. One thing for sure, no snowflakes here. Just wanted to get home, as we did. If any drivers that do not want to engage in chat, we accept. It’s only out of courtesy by saying good night and returning the same. Simple as.

In general most of my taxi drivers go out of their way to be courteous, they rarely drive away until they know I'm in my house and the door is shut, and leave their lights on to light up my drive way, I think this is far more important than whether they say thanks or bye.

I'd rather a silent taxi driver than an abusive, predatory one. I've had some really bad experiences. They're paid to get you to your destination, if they do that, I think it's grand.

I suspect that taxi drivers, similarly to many others who regularly deal with the public, become case hardened, to coin a phrase.

They become annured to dealing with rudeness, insults, abuse, violence, being ripped off, d*unkeness, etc., so it is no wonder they develop a sullen demeanour.

The general public, many of whom behave entitledly, are a nightmare to deal with; and I believe it is getting worse.
