Seemed like a good idea at the time

Belfast

On this day in 2005 Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Don Henley, 50 Cent, Kenny G and Steven Tyler performed at a $10 million Bat mitzvah party for a 13 year old girl and everyone at the party received a $1k goody bag.

Two years later her father was indicted for misappropriation of funds from his military supplying body armour company including the funds used for the party.

Probably not on same scale but I'm sure most of us have spent money on something that either came back to bite us on the arse or we wished we hadn't bothered.

I've bought expensive tickets to business events that seemed like a good idea at the time but were either disastrous, poorly organised or just a complete waste of time and money.

Somewhere in Co. Down

A second hand car that despite having a full service history and looking great and driving great for a couple of weeks it cost me a fortune in repair bills in the time I had it. Then it blew it's engine just as I was about to trade it in. Biggest waste of money ever.

Last year in January I booked and paid for a business trip to an exhibition in Stuttgard

2 days business and 2 days added on for pleassure for me

Asked by hotel did i want to save 100 by paying in full....so I did

Then the shit hit the fan...exhibition cancelled

Flights cancelled but hotel has refused to pay me back as they stayed open until the date of the exhibition and then closed when no one showed up

They were full so decided to hold off so as not to pay anyone back as travel wasn't banned ..just not advised ....bastards...still annoys me

Biggest waste of money ever - the wedding, followed by extortionate lawyer's fees for the divorce 16 years later

My advice, don't do it

my advice would be to sort it out between you if you can as solicitors fees are way too high, basically once they know you have money, they will take it off you.

Been there done that. Second the advice to try have it sorted. If she is open to mediation go down that route. That way you go to solicitor with an agreement and it’s just to get it done out into legal documents

We did that, and when it came to the day in court he wasn’t even in the country. Best 4 minutes of my life

Judge passed comment about how it’s great to see people being mature about it and sorting it out before they get to court.

Best of luck to you

best to go through mediation but make sure the mediators are not members of the legal profession they have started to move into that area
