"Regrettably, Irish society has largely lost most of the sense of community that was evident decades ago; or is this a case of nostalgic naivete on my behalf? The question is about treating yourself with love and care " I think the societal context has a direct influence on how we treat each other and how we treat ourselves. Society has become more callous, selfish and self-interested; overall we were kinder to ourselves an others in the past.

I'm not sure thata 100% truethe callousness and self interest is just more evident and less subtle. The "community" in Irish culture to me from speaking to older generations has always seemed like an information gathering exercise. And let's face it there was alot going on in our communities that people wouldn't or couldn't speak about, that I wouldn't consider a community looking out for each other

""Treat yourself how you would treat a person you care about" How many of you do? " I don't. I'm too busy caring for others to put myself first. Be it with my time or financially. I know I should do more for myself because life is so short but it's often just not possible.
