Only once, and I moved away because I didnt think I could give her the life she deserved. Always regretted it.

Love and the memories, they sparkling like diamonds,

When the diamonds fall, they burn like tears, when the diamonds fall, they burn like tears.

Once, some years ago. She swepr me off my feet and I thought "this is it"

However after a few months it began to unravel and it ended some time after rather devisively with us really falling out with each other. We've lost contact and I'm happy we have.

Based in Kerry, work in Cork.

I've thought I was in love a few times as I was in my teens and early twenties but on reflection I think that was more a manifestation of the deep seated sense of lack I felt and which lead to alcoholism. I was looking for someone to make me feel better.

When I got sober and was living in a Buddhist centre I fell in love with a woman who was 9 years older than me. Comparing that to all the other experiences, I would say that was the only time I've been 'in love'. It didn't work out though bcos she wanted to have kids pretty soon and I knew I wasn't ready.

My thoughts on love have since changed and now I feel that polyamory is right for me and, in hindsight, always has been.

The moment I meet him I new I was going to marry him one day, it was love at first sight. Ironically I was going out with someone else but nothing happened till my ex and I broke up. We ended 4 years ago, I still love him but I got sick with depression and self sabotaged the relationship and regret it to this day!

We have a child together and are best friends now. I cheated on him and he will never trust me again. I don't do relationships now and maybe one day we will work back together but for now he just wants to be friends! So I may respect that.

I think we really need to restart this thread with a definition of love; that is love for a partner, not the love for one's child, nor the love for one's parents, nor the love for one's siblings.

What does the love for one's partner entail?

The 3 things below

Respect

Trust

Affection

Mixed in with good communication, feeling at ease, willingness to compromise & an ability to grow together!

Ebs and flows eh

I fell in love with a crazy girl who would sleep with any one if I wasn't around destroyed me mentally as I tryed everything to stay with her.

That lead me to hook up with someone he was very safe and vanilla I learnt how to love her which is why we didn't last but to answer your question yes I've truly been in love and knowing how much it can mess with me mentally I don't want to do it again anytime soon

"Who have ever truly been in love?"

Huge difference between being "in love" and actually loving someone!

I've been hurt, let's put it that way - but was I just fooling myself, or was he? I know I have done the hurting too...

Yep, been 'in love' a few times, thats nice and easy, lets walk on fluffy clouds and have great sex.

Ive 'loved' and been loved once or twice, thats hard - lets see each others darkness and take it as worth it on balance.

I have loved a few times my problem has been I've given it to the wrong people. There was one beautiful woman who loved me with all her heart and if I gave it back as much as I got it, it would have been amazing.

Unfortunately, we don't realise this stuff until its too late.

I married the wrong person and have been stuck in limbo for nearly 3 years as a consequence.

I doubt I'm the only one.
