Can't believe they are talking about essential business operating restrictions on hotel and others businesses and possible lockdown after the new year if things don't clam down!

What are your thoughts, if this happening again.

Who is "they"?

Is it social media?

I've been listening to newstalk all morning and not 1 mention of this. Pure scaremongering at this stage.

Same thing always happens in these type of situations.

The rumour mill starts so that people have already been low key made aware of it so that when the government actually implements lockdown its not a 'cold drop'

It would be shite but if the hospitals need a break then guess it has to be done. 4 weeks in January wouldn't be the worst as it's freezing anyway and alot of people hibernate after christmas

Same happens every year with flu and winter vomiting bug. You would think they might have figured out that there is a huge increase in flu during flu season. Where is Sherlock Holmes when he is needed.

The only way this virus will go if enough people get it to reach herd immunity.

The vaccine doesn't stop you getting it. It just prevents you getting sick, or at least less sick than without the vaccine.

The cases are not going to come down otherwise. Well unless there's another lockdown but then we just start all over again afterwards.

Unfortunately herd immunity isn't achievable with the vaccines we have.

I dont disagree with rolling stuff back but I don't like the notion that young people's activities are to blame.

No issues with 50k at aviva for soccer or rugby a few days later and mixing in bars etc around the venue or indoor concerts were large commercial interests are held and no doubt lobbying to the government is involved.

Need to find a balance to stop fracturing society while protecting the health service and health care workers. Glad it's not my job.

Just means I'll continue to meet groups of southerners up for nights out in Belfast!

don’t agree with the 50k at aviva, either. The majority of young people do have the attitude I don’t care anymore, in a way I don’t blame them 18 months of them not be able to go out. But you gotta agree when you know they trying to fake the system getting in is wrong. Once drink is involved all precautions go out the window,,,, it was gonna happen

Things opened up in the North 3 months ago and cases initially spiked then remained stable despite their being no cert system or checks in place (which I disagree with). In England it was the same and in Scotland there was an initial spike followed by a large dip. There must be more at play if cases keep rising in the south to the point of a rollback on opening clubs and bars based on that no?

My point was more I don't think its right to target young people with restrictions and not make changes across the board. They will hold off where commercial interests and lobbying from big business is involved but target those without a voice first.

They should do on the spot fines, doesn't matter were you are same in France and in Italy I heard maybe other countries too. That what they need to do and if you don't pay the fines go up. Some people are so stupid it's crazy. As there was a comment on this forum about 50k at the match who's the blame for that! People that went to the match ..... yes, the organisers that let all the people in the stadium.... yes all because of money its sick!

did you ever hear such codswabble? all the people in the aviva is to do with money. eh no its not. its to do with loads enjoying life, loving live sport and getting the chance to see ireland play the best team in the world. a fool would know, country open (which it has to do) will always lead to excessive cases, this was always known as to what would happen but alot more are ending up in hospital and ICU then they thought. hospitals are always overcrowded this time of year, immunity of vaccines given in Jan /Feb is wearing off, new variants, do the vaccines protect as strongly against them? probably not. you're going to have to get young fit healthy people getting covid and their immune system fighting it off. by all means booster job the extremely vulnerable but we look to be going backwards. no point whinging. you never get everybody doing the one thing. people in big numbers are fed up and just trying to live a free full life without covid on the brain in everything they do and who can blame them at this stage.

Hairdressers and gyms to start requiring vaccine passports.

Leo is now on record as saying it's not a booster, it's a 3 course vaccine, so if you want to keep your passport you will need more injections.

Antigen tests which people on here and the govt said was snake oil are now to be taken everyday if a family member tests positive and 5 days isolation. Previously you were allowed to do as you pleased ofna family member tested positive.

I only know one family who got covid and it was Christmas last year they got it. the day one of them was hospitalised they went to the shop to buy bottles of lucozade. They broke no rules. But you will break a rule of you're not injected and they get a haircut.

Its not half an hour

We did 4000 tests on young people waiting to go to the first gig of the summer

It worked well

1 positive test ...later found to be false positive

Clubs are open earlier

"We are saved !! Niteclubs to close at 12..so the clubs wont open earlier and then they all head to house parties ,, nope they will all toddle off home to toast n tae from mammy and off to bed

I don't understand the reasoning behind this curfew would it not be better to antigen test every body on entry to a club or pub, theater or cinema and proactively seek out infected people so they can limit their contacts rather than waiting till they are sick and needing medical assistance

I knowantigen isn't fool proof but it surely alert people that they need to isolate whose going to antigen test you at all of these places or you antigen test yourself before you go and produce the results?

You do it there and then in front of the door staff i would hope the gov would step up and provide the tests it's got to be cheaper than pup doesn't an antigen test tell u to wait 30 minutes for result?

So u got to wait big deal if u want in its nothing in theory grand, practicality it won't work. a load of young lads and youngones half shot, expecting them to do an antigen test before entering and then wait a half hour. not a hope.

Its not half an hour

We did 4000 tests on young people waiting to go to the first gig of the summer

It worked well

1 positive test ...later found to be false positive

Clubs are open earlier

Not everyone will be half shot going in

"

if it works so well why is it not been implemented across the board by government?

you can't really blame many. 76% of all population of Ireland fully vaxed I think and just trying to get back living their life. as soon as we opened up and we knew vaccine doest stop the spread, it was common knowledge what would happen.
